Lillian Droniak, 96, has become TikTok’s favorite nonagenarian. Over the past few years, she has amassed more than 15 million followers by embracing aging with humor and enthusiasm. But recently, Droniak found herself in a little trouble after allegedly throwing parties at her retirement home.
She took to TikTok to show followers a warning letter that partly read, “Parties are not allowed and you cannot serve alcohol to other residents. This letter serves as a formal warning.” The letter stated that security footage showed people leaving Droniak’s room as late as 1 a.m. Management described the gatherings as “wild,” claiming residents had been drinking alcohol, which they said had become a growing safety concern.
She has a sense of humor
The now-famous TikTok creator, however, wasn’t about to accept the warning quietly. “I can do what I want,” Droniak declared in a video before dramatically ripping the letter into pieces. “I pay $12,000 a month to live here. I can party if I wanna. My girlfriends are coming over tonight. We’re going to drink and gossip.”
Most people know Droniak for her quirky T-shirts. One reads, “Too pretty for a job,” while another says, “Eyes up here.” It’s clear she has a playful sense of humor, and that’s exactly how she approached the entire situation. The very next day, she posted another video with the caption: “Hungover from last night’s party. My nursing home can’t stop me from partying through the last chapter of life.”
Many people in the comments couldn’t get past the monthly cost of the retirement home, with the $12,000 price tag stealing almost as much attention as the party itself. One user, however, found the whole thing relatable, writing, “My great grandma got kicked outta 4 nursing homes for this lol I felt like a mom picking my kid up from school.”
The story became so popular that People tracked down the retirement home’s management to find out whether any of it was actually true. The facility confirmed that the incident had happened but said the matter had since been resolved. According to the home, the two sides reached a compromise: Droniak can continue having friends over late into the evening, but alcohol is no longer allowed. So it’s not entirely clear what kind of “hangover” she was recovering from in that follow-up video.
Getting older doesn’t mean giving up fun
Reportedly, Droniak has lived at the retirement home since 2024, though her TikTok fame stretches back much further. Since 2019, she has been using the platform to show followers that getting older doesn’t have to mean giving up fun or laughter. When she first moved into the home, she joked that she simply didn’t want to “fall again.”
Since then, she has continued documenting life in a retirement home with her trademark wit. As more American families consider assisted living for their elderly relatives, Droniak offers a glimpse into that reality with a healthy dose of humor. And judging by her comment sections, plenty of people are more than happy to RSVP to the fun — even if management isn’t.
