Husband told her he needed to start filming her like he did with his ex wife. 3 months in marriage, she’s living in her car: ‘continued to escalate’

A woman who goes by @becksafterdark on TikTok says she is leaving her husband after just three months of marriage. In a series of videos posted to her account, she described a relationship that moved quickly from affection to conflict, and said she is now living out of her car.

Becks said in her first video that her husband often told her she was “a gift” and showered her with gestures like fixing her car and bringing her coffee. She said the relationship felt passionate and intense, and that she does not regret the experience.

But she said the same intensity showed up during arguments, which she said happened roughly every two weeks. She described a repeating pattern where small disagreements would escalate into what she called “devaluation,” including sarcastic and passive-aggressive remarks.

Becks described one argument that started after she came home from work and told her husband she had been reflecting on her self-worth and finances that day. She said she was trying to have a vulnerable moment with him. 

She said he responded by getting defensive and telling her, “I don’t see you that way at all. I can’t believe you would feel like that.” She said he then accused her of dishonesty, telling her, “You’re flipping the script. You’ve been lying.” When she pushed back, she said he told her, “Don’t gaslight me about this. You don’t get to gaslight me about this.”

According to Becks, he then said, “I need to start filming our conversations just like I did with my ex-wife.” She said she told him she saw contempt on his face, to which she said he replied, “Yeah, yeah, I won’t let you fail.”

“And I’m like, nobody’s talking about failing here. I’m just talking about how I feel. My God, right? So it continued to escalate,” she said. 

Becks said the disagreement continued into the next morning, when her husband allegedly told her, “Oh, we’re gonna have a bad day, aren’t we?” She said she eventually told him she was done, and he asked her to leave. She said she moved into her car after that conversation.

In a follow-up video, Becks said this was not the first time a disagreement between them had escalated. She said in an earlier incident, her husband called her a “crackhead b—h” repeatedly during an argument. She said she tried using a “gray rock” method, where she did not engage, but said it made the situation worse.

Becks said she left to spend time at the beach to cool down, and that her husband later went to her workplace, a restaurant she identified as Shrimp It Up. She said he confronted a customer there who had been complimenting her, telling the man, “Maybe you should speak to my wife the way you speak to her when your wife is around.” 

She said her husband then told the man, “You got about 30 seconds before we take this outside,” before her coworkers asked him to leave. Becks’s husband confronted a man at her workplace, a pattern seen in another case where a woman says her husband secretly read her private messages about leaving him. 

Becks said her manager banned her husband from the restaurant and took her off the schedule following the incident. She said that within about thirty minutes of the workplace confrontation, her husband texted her that he wanted a divorce. She said she was later able to keep her job on a probationary basis after apologizing to her coworkers and the customer involved.

In a third video, Becks said one earlier blowup was tied to her missing her daughter, who had just left for a planned year-long stay with her father in another state. She said she became emotional at work that night and stepped away to cry, and that her husband left the bar shortly after. 

Becks also said her husband repeatedly questioned her about male customers at her previous job, asking her, “What are you doing that’s making these men want to hit on you?” and, “With your background in psychology, you can’t get someone to leave you alone?” She said she had previously been divorced, and that her husband would bring this up during arguments, asking her, “Are you surprised that you’re getting divorced again?”

Becks said she does not feel regret about the relationship ending. She said she plans to save money and eventually buy a sailboat to travel with her daughter, adding that she has no prior sailing experience. People often face difficult choices in troubled marriages, such as when a Seattle woman discovered her unhappiness after 17 years and proposed a logical solution her husband rejected. 

Viewers responded to Becks’ videos in the comments. One commenter wrote, “I would not just tell my husband that guys are flirting with me. I would just not tell him that and just tell the guy that are flirting to leave you alone.” Becks replied, “He would see it, I work around the general public! But I agree.”

Another commenter wrote, “sounds like the universe used retrograde to remove that awful lesson from your life. congratulations (and hugs).” Becks responded, “This was wildly accurate.”

A third commenter wrote simply, “His mask slipped,” which received replies including “I was coming to say this” and “Coming to say this too!”

Another viewer wrote, “Sounds JUST like my relationship of four years. Thank you for telling your story. It gave me more courage to leave.” Becks replied, “I have never regretted leaving, but I have regretted staying! It’s not easy, but you can absolutely do difficult things. I believe in you Hana!”
