A Florida nurse says what began as a routine request from a patient’s family member turned into an encounter that left her questioning how safe even a familiar workplace can feel.
TikTok creator Rachael said the man approached her while she was working and claimed a restroom paper towel dispenser wasn’t working. She said he asked her to check it, but the interaction took an unsettling turn after she stepped inside the restroom.
“It doesn’t matter where you are as a woman, don’t you ever think for one second to let your guard down,” Rachael said. “Doesn’t matter if you have security around you, if you’re at work, if you think you’re covered.”
What happened inside the restroom
Rachael said she stepped into the restroom expecting to inspect the dispenser but realized that it was not empty. “So I come into the bathroom to check. There’s paper towels in it.”
She then explained she felt something was off as soon as she stepped inside the restroom. “As soon as I walked in, I felt uneasy,” she recalled. She alleged the man walked in behind her, leaving her wondering whether she had unknowingly trapped herself in the room with a stranger. “I walk in, he walks in behind me, and I’m thinking, oh, dang, did I just trap myself in the bathroom with this weird guy I don’t even know?”
When she turned around, Rachael said the man was standing in front of the doorway. She claimed he dismissed the paper towel complaint before complimenting her appearance and asking for her name. “I turn around, he’s right here blocking the door, and he goes, oh, well, I don’t know how that happened,” she said. “Well, you’re really pretty, by the way. What’s your name?”
Rachael also alleged the man appeared to be reading the name on her employee badge, prompting her to tell him to move so she could leave. “Sir, step aside. Step aside! Move out of my way.”
Stories about unsettling encounters with strangers have become increasingly common on TikTok. Earlier this month, another creator said a routine trip to a CVS pharmacy left her feeling uneasy after an unexpected interaction with a man.
The video drew plenty of responses, especially from healthcare workers who said they have their own ways of avoiding situations like this. One of the most-liked comments, with more than 400,000 likes, read, “‘Ok, I’ll let maintenance know’ is my go-to,” suggesting staff should avoid personally responding to maintenance complaints whenever possible.
Others urged Rachael to formally report the alleged encounter. “I hope you reported him. Sorry you had to experience that,” one viewer commented.
Several commenters also pointed to safety features available at some hospitals. One person wrote, “ur hospital should have distress alerts on your badge, thankfully mine does ,” while another encouraged her to notify hospital leadership, commenting, “Please write an incident report. Admin NEEDS to know wtf be going on these units. “
Many healthcare systems have workplace violence prevention policies that encourage employees to report threatening or inappropriate behavior involving patients or visitors. Depending on the facility, those reports can help document incidents, identify repeat concerns, and determine whether additional security measures are needed. That advice echoes a growing number of firsthand accounts from women who say ordinary interactions with strangers unexpectedly turned into situations that made them fear for their safety.
Rachael said the experience left her visibly shaken, telling viewers her “heart is racing” as she urged other women not to let their guard down, no matter where they are. “Like, don’t you ever let your guard down for one second,” she said.
