Texas woman spots a mystery feature at H-E-B. Then the truth leaves her speechless: ‘I was today years old when I realized’

A shopper’s grocery store discovery is getting attention online after she shared a video showing a small clip attached to the handle of a shopping cart. The clip, she explained, is actually built to hold coupons while people shop.

The video was posted by a TikTok account called FIGURING LIFE OUT, SOFTLY (@figuringlifeout.softly). It has been viewed and liked by hundreds of thousands of people, gaining 709,500 likes. The caption of the video reads, “did you know?!?! Let me know if you will start using this to hold your coupons next time.” 

In the video, a hand reaches for a yellow coupon hanging from a plastic clip in a grocery store freezer aisle. The camera then moves to an empty shopping cart, showing a small clear plastic clip attached to the handle.

The video shows a hand placing the yellow coupon into the clip on the cart handle, showing how it holds the paper in place. The camera then zooms in on the coupon, which advertises a deal for “4 for $8 (when you buy 4) Cold-Pressed Juice.”

On-screen text in the video reads, “i was today years old when I realized this little holder was made to hold your coupons.” The video ends with a close-up shot of the coupon held securely in the clip.

The video drew a wide range of reactions in the comments. Several viewers said they believed the slot was meant for something else entirely. One commenter wrote, “I thought it was for my phone?!?!” Another added, “yall saying to put your phones in there but i didn’t even know that it was there.”

Other commenters shared their own habits with coupons. One person joked, “Listen, the right way is to put the coupons in your back pocket and forget about them at checkout.” Another pointed out a practical issue with the clip, saying, “Doesn’t work when you’re in a rush and whipping that cart around, my coupons be flying everywhere.”

Some commenters questioned the value of paper coupons altogether. One wrote, “Hate those coupons. Waste of time, paper and money printing them. Following the reactions about the phone slot, the creator posted a second video on TikTok replying directly to the comment that suggested the space was meant for a phone. The caption of the follow-up video reads, “Replying to @Queenfranchelle okay I went back and tried it out!! The phone actually fits but I can see myself walking out with it still there,” along with the hashtags #iwastodayyearsold and #FiguringLifeOutSoftly.

The follow-up video opens with a view from inside a car driving past an H-E-B store. On-screen text reads, “yall made me go back to test out this theory,” in reply to the comment that said, “I thought it was for my phone.”

The video then shows the creator walking on a sidewalk toward a row of shopping carts outside the store. The camera focuses on a narrow, rectangular slot built into the plastic handle assembly of the cart, separate from the coupon clip shown in the first video.

Inside the store, the creator pushes the cart down an aisle stocked with tea and other dry goods. She takes out her smartphone and slides it into the narrow slot on the cart’s handle. The phone fits into the space, which appeared to confirm that the slot was designed to hold a phone while shopping.
