‘Ridiculous’: Florida Amazon driver mistakes a $4 cake pop for a free snack. Then the bakery publicly shames him and labels him a thief

The sign said “Treat yourself,” so he did

A TikTok video posted by @lynewsdaily described an incident involving an Amazon driver and a Florida porch bakery. On-screen text in the video reads, “Florida Bakery Publicly Shames Amazon Driver Who Mistook a $4 Cake Pop for a Free Snack.”

The narrator in the video said an Amazon driver mistook a $4 cake pop for a free snack and took it from a home porch bakery. The narrator stated that the business publicly shamed him in a way that could have cost him his job. The video said the incident happened at Homemade Haven Porch Bakery in Florida.

The first visual in the video showed the Amazon driver, identified as Wes Stott, bending over a pink cooler on a porch and appearing to take something. That clip was followed by a close-up of various cake pops that were individually wrapped and decorated with chocolate and sprinkles. The video, shown with a “BREAKING NEWS” report style and a “NEWS LIVE” banner, has gained 4.8 million views, 404,700 likes, and more than 15,900 comments.

Facebook post used doorbell camera footage to ask neighbors to identify the driver

The narrator said the driver saw a cooler outside the home and a large sign that said, “Treat yourself to Homemade Haven.” The video showed a pink sign on a lawn that read, “Homemade Haven Sourdough Porch Bakery, 5980 Grandview Dr, Open Everyday 7am-7pm.”

The narrator explained that many homeowners leave free snacks for delivery workers, and the driver believed the cake pop was meant for him. The video showed the pink cooler on the porch with a sign on the bottom shelf that said, “TREAT YOURSELF TO HOMEMADE HAVEN.” A small box on the right side of the cooler was labeled “PAY HERE” with a downward arrow, the footage indicated.

The narrator said the bakery used doorbell camera footage to post about him in a local Facebook group. A screenshot of a Facebook post from Homemade Haven featured a still image of Wes Stott from a doorbell camera. The post asked, “If anyone knows this Amazon driver, please tell him to come back and pay my wife for the cake pop he took.” The narrator said the post also promoted the bakery and asked customers to leave Facebook reviews, and it offered a free cookie for a review.

After seeing the accusation, the driver identified himself and explained that he had misunderstood the signs, the video stated. The narrator added that he said he never intended to steal anything. Misunderstandings over small items can lead to serious consequences, as when a Kentucky Ford employee was fired after being accused of stealing a cookie he had bought.

A screenshot of a Facebook comment from Wes Stott read, “Im the driver the entire thing was my not paying attention. I saw ‘help yourself’ and when i open the ice chest some of the treats said free. I was in a burry and should’ve paid better attention but nothing was done out of malicious intent. Thank you for everyone who had my back. Also dont let this ruin a business. She works hars on her treays and does an incredible job. Now I just hope this entir… more.”

A screenshot of a Google Pay transaction showed a $5.00 payment from Breanna Stott to Homemade Haven with the note “For for the cake pop” and a Complete status. The narrator said his wife then sent the bakery $5, even though the cake pop cost only $4. She also said she was terrified that Amazon might fire her husband. The narrator noted that the couple has 4 children and is already struggling financially. The video displayed a photo of Wes Stott and his wife, Breanna Stott, smiling together.

The narrator stated that despite the explanation and payment, the business continued calling him a thief and refused to apologize. A Facebook comment from Adam Walters, shown in the video as the bakery owner’s husband, read, “Yeah, let me apologize for someone stealing from me and calling them out. Make it make sense.”

The narrator said many people accused the bakery of publicly bullying a worker over an honest mistake. The original post was later deleted, and the bakery turned off comments after receiving heavy backlash, the video stated. For Florida bakeries, public accusations against delivery drivers have drawn scrutiny before, as in a case where an Uber driver was accused of stealing 400 cinnamon rolls before police revealed the truth.

Viewers commented on the video and focused on the wording of the signs and the size of the item taken. One commenter wrote, “The fact that he thought it was free and still only took 1 tells you he had no bad intentions… I hope people stop supporting this bakery.” Another pointed to the sign language and wrote, “Treat yourself to me implies it’s free.”

A commenter who said they own a bakery wrote, “Ykw. I own a bakery. Find this man so I can send him and his family a dozen cake pops. People pmo.” Another wrote, “And just like that Homemade Haven Porch Bakery lost their blessings! The sign said “Treat yourself ” No prices or anything saying pay here or how to pay!” One commenter wrote, “I hope the bakery loses business and closes. Ridiculous.” Another added, “Ik he’ll never touch something on someone’s porch again.”
