We Got This Covered Picks The Best Games Of E3 2014

Well, it's over, folks. E3 2014 has come and gone and while it may not have been the expo's most exciting outing, there was still a lot worth talking about. The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are now in the hands of gamers everywhere and, this year, the focus was clearly on the games themselves. Each genre brought with it a strong showing and, as always, there was a lot that impressed us. Now that the dust has settled, we're here to reflect on the convention and provide you with our picks for the best games of E3 2014. It was pretty tough to pick just one single game that stood out for all of us, so we've decided to go with two choices each. In all honesty, we could have done five or ten, but we're sticking with two and hopefully you'll agree with some of the titles we've selected. So, without further ado, here were our favorite games that we got to check out at E3 2014. Chaz Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain This game damn near stole the show for me. It’s showing a bit more of that levity that we had in the earlier games of the series, adding in a fantastically detailed world and what seems to be a plethora of stuff to do in it. Between sneaking up on guards, building up Mother Base and using the Fulton to transport goats to the offshore zoo of my dreams, it looks like we’re going to lose countless hours to the title when it comes out. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt This is already a legendary franchise for PC gamers, offering sprawling worlds where your decisions have important and often drastic decisions on the game’s landscape. While we weren’t able to actually play The Witcher 3 at this year’s E3, we were able to sit in on a closed door session where CD Projekt Red showed off a mission. Simply put, we were blown away with what we saw. The visuals are absolutely spellbinding, the combat is extremely fast and fluid, and the small moral choice we were confronted with during the demo had an immediate effect on the game. Everything we saw had us wanting more and only made the wait until February much, much longer. John Fleury Super Smash Bros. (Wii U) It's been a long time since Super Smash Bros. Brawl came out, and Nintendo repeating the method of doling out character reveals and other information for the first HD entry (along with its companion 3DS game, the first portable entry in the series) has done a great job of getting me hyped for the newest entry in the series. The truckload of new character and information reveals that E3 has brought, along with getting to play it for the first time on the show floor, has me even more pumped. The Smash Bros. series has always been both a fun and unique take on the fighter genre as well as gaming's biggest nostalgia trip, and this doesn't look like it will break either of those traditions. Release day can't come soon enough. LittleBigPlanet 3 Spinoff entries like LittleBigPlanet Karting and the Vita game have been fun, but I've been wondering for a while when we would get word on the next proper home console entry to follow up the stellar LittleBigPlanet 2. Everything I've seen and played regarding LittleBigPlanet 3 has me interested to learn more about its new features, characters, and mechanics. New developer Sumo Digital looks to be doing a fine job taking the reins from series creators Media Molecule, and I look forward to seeing Sackboy make his PS4 debut this November. Chad Goodmuprhy Forza Horizon 2 Picking a Game of Show for E3 2014 is a tough endeavour, because so many titles looked great, each in their own unique way. Forza Horizon 2, on the other hand, was a game that I'd started dreaming about the day I finished (and reviewed) its predecessor. Honestly, I'm just happy that it exists, and that it's not years away from releasing. When we were able to sit down and watch as Forza Horizon 2 was demoed by Playground Games staffers, I couldn't stop thinking about how gorgeous it was. The way the (dynamic) rain hit the cars and beaded along their windows looked almost photorealistic, the Italian coast was detailed and picturesque, and the action was intense. It truly looks as if they took the original game's best parts and turned them up to eleven, which is exactly what I was hoping they would do. Dying Light Going into E3, I was eager to spend time with Dying Light, a spiritual successor to Dead Island, which had looked great every time Techland had showed it off through trailers and screens. As a fan of both zombies and first-person RPGs, plus the developer's previous efforts, it had me intrigued and excited. On the final day of the show, I was able to head up to Techland's meeting room and demo the game. Let's just say that it made me even more excited about what will be delivered come February 2015. Parkour mixed with melee combat, role-playing elements and zombies, is something that I so desperately need in my life, and it looks like Poland will soon satisfy that thirst. The game plays extremely well and is just too much fun. If this one isn't already on your radar, I suggest that you put it on there immediately.
