For those of us that grew up in the 90s, “Ba-Ding!” is probably one of the most instantly recognisable sounds there is. Whether it was catching Pokémon or traversing across Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda, that familiar chime undoubtedly signalled the start of a great pixelated adventure.

And it turns out we’ll be hearing that nostalgic jingle again very soon, after Nintendo revealed a Game Boy-themed stage that will be exclusive to the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. The announcement was made over the weekend when series creator Masahiro Sakurai published a still from the level onto the Miiverse blog.

Alongside the image, Sakurai encouraged budding fighters to utilise the 3D effect when on the stage, as it “really looks like there’s a Game Boy inside the screen.” Either way, pummelling AI enemies or indeed friends on one of the company’s most iconic platforms will surely be a surreal and nostalgic experience.

Elsewhere, it was also confirmed that a limited edition 3DS XL will launch in tandem with Super Smash Bros. in Europe — it’s unclear if this SKU will release in North America as of yet — which boasts a stylised body featuring the game’s eclectic roster. Additionally, the bundle will also come with a copy of the Big N’s anticipated brawler pre-installed.

Super Smash Bros. 4 is slated to launch across 3DS on October 3rd and Wii U later in the year.
