Over the course of Arrow‘s third season, Brandon Routh’s character Ray Palmer has toyed around with the idea of becoming a superhero. Now, his dream will soon become a reality, as evidenced by this new official image of Routh in costume as The Atom (or, A.T.O.M. as he’s been dubbed on the show).
Routh will suit up as the size-changing Justice Leaguer on the February 25th episode. Whether or not he’ll be able to shrink down to the size of subatomic particles remains to be seen, but that might be something that’s saved for his own spinoff series, which is something the network is currently considering.
Star City won’t be the only place graced by the A.T.O.M.’s presence, either. The Flash star Grant Gustin teased a Flash/A.T.O.M. team-up shortly after the costume image was released. Could Ray Palmer head to S.T.A.R. Labs for a few upgrades?

I, for one, am a huge fan of Routh’s new costume. I was a bit worried about how it would look, thanks to some rather cheesy holograms seen around Ray Palmer’s office over the last few episodes, but as always, it looks like the costume department nailed the design, perfectly blending the necessary “grounded” look of TV with the New 52 comic book design.
