Agent Phil Coulson was the “glue” of the first phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so what better way to usher in Spider-Man’s inclusion than to have Coulson show up in the next Spidey film? If Coulson geeked out over Captain America, there’s no telling how giddy he’d be about the friendly neighborhood wall crawler. Plus, the dynamic between the two characters would be incredibly fun to watch.
Peter Parker is one of the smartest characters in Marvel Comics, but that intelligence has not yet been fully explored on film. One great way to do that is to have Parker become the third “science bro,” along with Tony Stark and Bruce Banner. Spidey and Iron Man have teamed up multiple times in the comics, and having Robert Downey Jr. show up in the next Spider-Man film would immediately establish the new universe that Spider-Man exists in. It would also immediately catch the attention of moviegoers who may be tired of Spider-Man, but more apt to check the film out if Iron Man performs a flyby or two.
Another simple and effective way to establish Peter Parker’s new place in the MCU is to bring Nick Fury into the fold, even in a small, Iron Man 2-esque capacity. Additionally, you could include the fact that Peter’s parents were Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., something that could have been included in the Amazing Spider-Man franchise if this rights issue were resolved sooner.
Erik Selvig is one of the go-to scientists in the MCU, so having him interact with Peter Parker would be great as it would once again establish Peter’s intelligence. Perhaps Selvig starts teaching in New York and has a wall-crawling pupil? Or maybe Spider-Man comes to him for help with a particularly tricky villain. The possibilities are really endless.
It might be hard for some of the flagship MCU characters to show up in a Spider-Man film, especially with big events like Ragnarok on the horizon, so why not have some of the second-tier heroes, like Anthony Mackie’s Falcon, show up instead? Falcon’s personality would mesh incredibly well with Peter Parker’s, and the visuals of the wall-crawler swinging around the city with Falcon flying by his side are a superhero fan’s dream.
Speaking of second-tier heroes, Hawkeye doesn’t get anything to do outside of Avengers films, so it’d be great to see him get a bit more screentime in a Spidey flick. If nothing else, Hawkeye’s colder and straight-forward demeanor would be a fun counterpoint to Peter’s more playful nature.

It may be quite some time before this kind of team-up could happen, but just think of how fun it would be for Peter Parker to fight alongside someone like Groot or Rocket Racoon! Furthermore, Peter’s personality would jive incredibly well with Peter Quill’s, and his sarcastic quips would go right over Drax’s head (though nothing goes over his head, because his reflexes are too fast).
Spider-Man and Daredevil have fought crime side by side several times in the pages of Marvel Comics over the years. Daredevil will exist in the smaller, more grounded street-level corner of the MCU, and Spider-Man could be the perfect middle ground between that and the more fantastical elements of the Avengers. Plus, pair Matt Murdock’s radar sense with Peter Parker’s Spidey Sense, and you’ve got yourself cinematic gold, as well as a few fun action set pieces.
If you bring Daredevil into the fold, you HAVE to bring in the Kingpin, who will make his debut in the Daredevil Netflix series but has often been one of Spider-Man’s nemeses. This kind of pairing is exactly what fans have been wanting from a proposed Sony/Marvel deal, and now that we live in a world where it’s possible, it’s all the more exciting.
