Fresh off shepherding last year’s sleeper hit Neighbours to success, writers Brendan O’Brien and Andrew J. Cohen are heading back to suburbia for a new comedy stint. On this occasion, the pair have teamed up for New Line’s newly-acquired project The House, and The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Will Ferrell has signed on to produce and also star in the film.

According to the report, The House will server as Cohen’s directorial debut, who recently wrapped up work on Zac Efron’s Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates along with his creative number two.

With Ferrell’s involvement now pegged down, the Anchorman fan favorite will step into the shoes of a loving father and husband who, along with his wife, make a royal clusterfuck that results in them losing their daughter’s precious college fund. And so, clutching at straws, the pair decide to set up an illegal casino at home in their basement in a desperate attempt to recoup some of the wayward funds.

It’s an appropriately bonkers premise, and if Ferrell can channel some of the familial fun that we’ve seen during his hilarious turn in Step Brothers, then The House could certainly be one to keep an eye on going into next year. No other casting has been announced at this time, though it’s understood that New Line is reportedly eyeing an August start date for The House, which would see the comedy make its bow in and around the summer of 2016.

But what do you think? Does Ferrell’s latest venture in the genre sound like something you’d be interested in seeing come release? Let us know your early impressions in the comments section below.
