Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Preacher series has added another name to its expanding roster of misfit characters. Set up at AMC and scheduled to commence production shortly, the show will now be joined by This Is England‘s Joseph Gilgun. As the Irish vampire Cassidy, Gilgun has snagged one of three leading roles.

The comic book series by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon revolves around a preacher named Jesse Custer. A conflicted man who becomes entangled with a beast fallen from heaven, he gathers his best friend and his ex-girlfriend to track down God. That core trio now has its bestie in the shape of Cassidy, who is described as follows:

“… the most wild-ass, bestest “bro” you’d ever want to meet. He may be 100 years dead but no one’s more boisterously alive than Proinsias Cassidy. An incorrigible mischief-maker, Cassidy’s up for anything — joyriding, bungee-jumping, bank robbing, peyote dropping. He’s also a relentless conversationalist with opinions on everything from religion to politics to pop culture to theories on why people are better able to tolerate the odor of their own flatulence.”

Gilgun joins Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Ruth Negga, who has been cast as Jesse’s former lover Tulip, and Ian Colletti, who landed the unfortunately-named part of Arseface.

At this point, there’s yet to be confirmation over whether or not Dominic Cooper has secured the leading role. He has been hotly-tipped for the top spot since the beginning of the month, and hopefully we’ll find out if he will set out on that divine mission as AMC’s Preacher very soon.

Preacher is about Jesse Custer, a conflicted Preacher in a small Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do anything he says. Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy, the three embark on a journey to literally find God.
