The DC Comics television universe over on The CW is going to expand even further with another spinoff of both Arrow and The Flash. The previously-untitled team-up series from Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim has now been given the official moniker Legends of Tomorrow, in addition to a full series order from the network.

As previously reported, Legends of Tomorrow will feature a number of characters from both Arrow and The Flash, namely Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer/The Atom, Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold, Dominic Purcell as Heatwave, Victor Garber as one half of Firestorm and Caity Lotz, who will presumably reprise her role as Sara Lance/Canary, though how she’ll come back from the dead remains a mystery.

That ragtag group of heroes and villains will be joined by new additions Ciara Renee (Law & Order: Special Victim’s Unit) as Hawkgirl, Edge of Tomorrow‘s Franz Drameh as Jay Jackson (who I suspect is secretly Cyborg, or even Wally West) and Doctor Who alum Arthur Darvill as time-travelling hero Rip Hunter.

While the pilot for the series hasn’t even been shot yet, a trailer has, and it’s expected to be shown at the upfronts next week. Until then, we have the official synopsis to whet our appetites:

“When heroes alone are not enough… the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat – one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?”

It sounds to me like the team will go up against Vandall Savage, though I suppose there are other immortal villains within the DC pantheon who could cause some serious trouble. We don’t yet know when the show will premiere, or how long its season will be, but I’m excited for it all the same.
