We’ve learned a few bits and pieces about most of the new cast members for the upcoming sixth season of Game Of Thrones, but whoever Ian McShane has signed on to play has been kept firmly under wraps… until now.
The Deadwood star appeared on a British breakfast TV show this morning to chat about some of of the stuff he has in the pipeline, and after first stating that he couldn’t talk about his Game Of Thrones role, he proceeded to do just that.
McShane dropped a massive hint about not only his own character, but another fan-favorite who we haven’t seen since Arya left him bleeding out at the bottom of a cliff in the season 4 finale.
Here’s an excerpt from Vulture’s report:
“I have nursed a much-loved character back to life,” McShane explained, before challenging his host to guess. When she pointed out that he could only be referring to the Hound or Jon Snow, he tried to pretend he wasn’t spilling: “It’s not the latter, it might be the former.”
No, he’s not talking about Jon Snow! Though this might not mean a whole lot to those that haven’t read the source novels, McShane seems to be referring to a character known as the Elder Brother: a former warrior turned monk, who it is strongly implied nurses Sandor “The Hound” Clegane back to health after finding him at death’s door.
Obviously we’ll have to wait until Game Of Thrones returns in April to be certain, but at this point it seems pretty cut and dry: The Hound lives!
