The first of Hitman‘s Elusive Targets will be showing up in-game tomorrow, Square Enix has announced. The feature – which the game’s official website describes as the “closest thing to the Hitman fantasy that we’ve [IO Interactive] ever created,” boasts completely “custom-created” targets that are only present in the world for a limited amount of time before they disappear for good.
An Elusive Target is the closest thing to the Hitman fantasy that we’ve ever created. Each one is a custom-created character with their own backstory and their own unique reason for being in that location. We call them Elusive Targets because they are added to an existing location for a limited time in real-time and you’ll only have one chance to take them down. If you kill them, that’s the way that you killed them. There are no do-overs and no second chances. When an Elusive Target leaves the game world, they never return.
That’s right, there are no retries or second chances with Elusive Targets; you get one chance only to locate, catch and kill your mark and if you fail, it’s tough luck.
IO says that future targets won’t necessarily be announced beforehand either, meaning you’ll need to keep your eyes peeled for any additional Contracts.
See below for the general rules you’ll have to abide by for each one:
- Elusive Targets are added to the game for a limited time in real-time. They won’t return.
- You only get one chance to take them down. If you die, you fail the contract and cannot retry it.
- Elusive Targets do not show up on the in-game map or Instinct. You need to locate and identify them with limited intel.
- Earn in-game rewards for completing multiple Elusive Target contracts throughout the season.
Full-scale episodes for Hitman are released every month, with the most recent – Sapienza – being set on the Italian coast, where Agent 47 is tasked with eliminating a scientist gone mad.
