BoJack Horseman will return to Netflix with its third season on July 22nd, 2016 – and the news comes straight from the horse’s mouth. Answering a question fans have been asking since the animated comedy series was renewed last year, star Will Arnett used Twitter to release a short clip, informing his followers of the all-important date.

BoJack Horseman was created by Raphael Bob-Waksberg and takes a satirical swipe at celebrity culture and the machinations of Hollywood. Will Arnett voices the titular character who – in a world where anthropomorphic animals and humans live side-by-side – is the former of star of a popular 1990s sitcom. BoJack seeks to regain cultural relevance by dictating a tell-all biography to ghostwriter Diane Nguyen (Alison Brie), while dealing with a freeloading roommate (Aaron Paul), a social and professional rival (Paul F. Tompkins), and an agent, Princess Carolyn (Amy Sedaris), with whom he has an on-off relationship.

The show is notable for its roster of supporting voice talent, which has included Patton Oswalt, Stanley Tucci, Kristen Schaal, Olivia Wilde, J.K Simmons, Ken Jeong, Aisha Tyler, Lisa Kudrow, Keegan-Michael Key, Ed Helms and Liev Schreiber, among many, many others. Though it initially received a mixed reception with its first season, BoJack Horseman has quickly consolidated its audience and enjoyed the staunch support of Netflix. Still available to stream on the platform are seasons one and two, along with a Christmas Special from December 2014.

The series – which usually comprises of 12 episodes per season – continues the productive relationship between Netflix and Will Arnett, which has so far yielded a fourth season of Arrested Development and the popular comedy series Flaked, which debuted on the streaming platform earlier this year. BoJack Horseman, however, remains one of Will Arnett’s most successful endeavours, as it gives a seemingly free reign to his unique wit and tone – something that combines well with the sensibility of series creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg. With almost two months remaining before the July 22nd premiere date, we can expect more evidence of that pitch-perfect collaboration to be released – by way of trailers and clips – in the coming weeks.
