Laurel Lance’s Return Sets Up Some Big Things For Arrow’s Future

One of the biggest shocks in Arrow season 5's midseason finale came when Laurel Lance seemingly returned from the grave. One of the biggest shocks in Arrow season 5’s midseason finale came when Laurel Lance seemingly returned from the grave. If you were expecting this to be a one-off appearance for Laurel’s doppelganger, you may want to think again. In a recent interview, Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim refused to shed any light on who this new version of the fan-favourite character is, but promised that her appearance may be setting the stage for something much, much bigger down the line.

“The episode ends with laying a very specific seed with a very specific game part on our part that we hope to see come to fruition.”

With it looking highly unlikely that the original Black Canary will return, it now sounds like this new version will ultimately take her place. While that will be a little odd (and arguably proves how unnecessary Laurel’s shocking death was in the first place), it could very well help bring Arrow closer to the comic books.

For a long time now, fans have been calling out for romance between the Green Arrow and Black Canary, so anything which brings that closer to becoming a reality would be well-received. We’re just going to have to wait and see how things play out, but stay tuned for more on Arrow over the next couple of weeks as we inch closer to its return.
