New Walking Dead Promo Teases The Impending War

If the first half of The Walking Dead's seventh season took its time building up the plot and slowly planting the seeds for what was to come, then the second half looks to be another beast entirely as it hits the pedal to the metal in a race to what's sure to be an explosive conclusion. All-out war is coming to the hit AMC series and according to the network, Rick and his gang will be "tested in ways we’ve never seen before" as they attempt to band together and take down Negan.

The mid-season finale teased as much, as we saw the group reunited and ready to take back control. Now, as we head into the show’s return, AMC is ramping up the promotion and giving us a few glimpses of the battle that’s about to ensue. Rick is trying to round up the other communities to form an alliance of sorts and in this new promo (which is really just an extended version of the one we saw yesterday), we see that things are starting to heat up as our protagonists finally make a stand. Will they be successful, though? That remains to be seen, but they’re certainly going to put up one hell of a fight.

In addition to the new promo, we’ve also got an interesting quote to share with you from Sonequa Martin-Green, who plays Sasha on the show. Given that she just landed a sizeable role on Star Trek: Discovery, fans aren’t expecting her to last much longer on The Walking Dead. That’s purely speculation for now though and while she declined to comment on it while speaking to EW in a recent interview, the actress did say the following:

“We’ve all come together, and that’s a beautiful thing. It took us a long time to get back together, and everybody’s been on their separate paths of, really, self-discovery and also figuring out, how are we going to move forward? How do I fit in this new world? We’ve all been on our separate paths doing that, and I think that the first half of the season was such an arduous one. It was so painstaking trudging uphill trying to figure this new world out.

And so I am in a similar mindset that everyone else is in. We realize that we are conquerors, and we’ve made it. We’ve made it back together, and that’s victory enough to give us some pep in our step, you know? So I’m ready to see what we can do together, and I’ve never taken my eye off of Negan. I know what I believe needs to be done, and I’m ready to see if we can come up with a plan that will work together.”

Sounds like everyone’s all fired up then, which should make for an exciting second half of the season. Producer Greg Nicotero has already teased the midseason premiere as one of the best episodes yet and from everything we’ve been hearing, it truly does look like the upcoming weeks will pick up the pace significantly and deliver a thrilling conclusion, as we watch what’s sure to be an epic clash between Rick and Negan.
