When you’re tired of whittling your time away on the latest huge blockbuster triple-A release, it’s always refreshing to dive headfirst into an indie gem that scratches a certain itch you didn’t even know you had. Small indies are usually rich with big ideas and make for perfect palette cleansers that help combat the onset of tedium brought on by the very apparent Hollywoodization of the triple-A gaming space.

Don’t get me wrong, I love triple-A games, too; I’m chomping at the bit to get my mitts on Quantic Dreams’ narrative-focused Detroit: Become Human as well as this month’s upcoming RPG opus Mass Effect: Andromeda, not only to soak in the extravagant spectacle of it all, but to live, breathe and get lost in their grandiose worlds — trust me, I totally get why blockbuster games are so integral for the industry.

These are games that have that je ne sais quoi, that special something that keeps you coming back for more.

Mama’s secret, moreish sauce can often vary from game to game, but what’s one thing all these titles have in common? Well, that’s pretty simple… they’re all awesome video games. So, ladies and gentlemen, here are 5 of the most fun, uber addictive indie efforts from recent memory…
