Smallville Star Tom Welling Has Ideas About How He Could Appear On The Flash

Back when Supergirl first arrived, longtime fans of the Man of Steel's TV adventures campaigned to get Smallville's Tom Welling cast as Kara's Kryptonian cousin on the show. In the end, Tyler Hoechlin ended up donning the Big Blue Boy Scout's tights for a couple of episodes of Supergirl's second season. While the actor turned out to be a great fit for the role, it was a shame that it meant we wouldn't get Welling in the Arrowverse. Or so we thought.

Back when Supergirl first arrived, longtime fans of the Man of Steel’s TV adventures campaigned to get Smallville‘s Tom Welling cast as Kara’s Kryptonian cousin on the show. In the end though, Tyler Hoechlin ended up donning the Big Blue Boy Scout’s tights for a couple of episodes of Supergirl‘s second season. While promoting his latest TV part, detective Marcus Pierce on Lucifer (itself based on a DC comic), the actor spoke to Nuke The Fridge, who asked him if he’d be interested in joining The Flash. It turns that not only is he open to the idea, but he has a few theories about how he could come onto the show.

“I am willing to go on The Flash and I have a few ideas on how it can happen if the network asks me. In fact, I think I can make it happen.”

DC fans can probably guess what Welling’s ideas revolve around. The Flash frequently features the concept of the Multiverse, which has allowed the likes of Supergirl and the 1990 Flash TV series to be part of its canon. It wouldn’t be too difficult, then, for Welling’s version of Superman to travel to Central City, thereby bringing Smallville into the Arrowverse as well.

Now that Welling has returned to the world of DC TV after six years away, let’s hope that The CW makes the most of this fact and offers him a part on The Flash. Supergirl has already cast his Smallville co-star Erica Durance in the series’ third season premiere, so why not have Welling climb on board, too?

The Flash returns to our screens on October 10th.
