Coming out of “How It’s Gotta Be” and all of the game-changing revelations that ensued, Andrew Lincoln’s wounded hero has been left facing a parent’s worst nightmare on The Walking Dead season 8: Carl Grimes, the veteran survivor as played by Chandler Riggs, suffered a fatal walker bite on Sunday’s mid-season finale, meaning it’s now only a matter of time before he’s written out of the series for good.

It’s a tragic, heartwrenching reveal that will only bring Rick and Morgan Jones (Lennie James) closer together going into the remainder of season 8, but it turns out Lincoln’s leader will form a closer bond with another key TWD character, too:  Danai Gurira’s fan-favorite Michonne. In fact, as Andrew Lincoln told ComicBook.com, The Walking Dead fans can expect season 8B to allocate more screen time to Rick and Michonne.

Obviously gather from what happened, Rick and Michonne and everybody. The fallout from Carl’s death is, is they’re gonna need each other to be able to get through and navigate what was an unfathomable loss. I think there will be a lot time spent between those characters trying to work out how they move on.

One thing’s for sure: Carl’s impending death will have a huge bearing on the second half of season 8 (or the “back eight,” as Lincoln calls it), which will shuffle back onto the small screen in February.

And true to the old adage, it’s now been confirmed that AMC’s All-Out War will have Andrew Lincoln’s father burying his son, as opposed to the other way around:

All of the back eight is this terrible death. This emotion is unending throughout the whole cast and, I think, it’s palpable. The cost of this battle is much more full because of what happened.

Buckle up, folks, for AMC’s adaptation of the famous All-Out War comic has only reached the halfway point, meaning the second, conclusive chapter will be with us when The Walking Dead season 8 returns on February 25th, 2018.
