The highlight of every Arrowverse season has to be the big crossover event that unites all of The CW’s DC TV shows. They’ve got grander and grander over the years and the showrunners just keep on managing to exceed our expectations and deliver something really special every time. But can they do it again next season? Well, they’ve already started work on it, which is definitely a good sign.
While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, producer Marc Guggenheim revealed that discussions are currently in their earliest stages about the ins and outs of next year’s big crossover event. He also teased that the team already have “a germ of an idea” for what the overall concept of it will be.
“Yes, we actually have started talking about it. We’ve had our earliest meetings. We’ve never met with the studio as earlier as we have this year. We’re trying to get out in front of it as humanly possible. We have a germ of an idea, kind of know what the shape of it is going to be.”
The fact that the ball is rolling on the crossover so early in the year is a good sign, apparently, as Guggenheim went on to say that the scripting process usually doesn’t begin until August or September. Which is only a couple of months before the event hits TV screens (usually in December).
“There’s still a whole lot of work left to do, but given the fact that the writing of the crossover usually happens in late August or September, we’re so far ahead of the game.”
Fans will remember that this season’s big crossover united the heroes of Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl for the “Crisis on Earth-X” event, which saw their evil doppelgangers from an alternate world arrive to conquer Earth-1. This was the biggest in scale by far of all of the Arrowverse‘s crossovers, which has led to some talk that next time things could be a little more intimate. Stephen Amell, for instance, believes the following special will focus more on the characters.
Whether that ends up being the case or not remains to be seen, but as soon as we learn more about what the producers have planned, we’ll be sure to let you know.
