Josh Brolin: Why The DCEU’s Loss Is Marvel’s Gain

Josh Brolin is dominating as Thanos and Cable, but things could've been different had he accepted the part of the Dark Knight in the DCEU.

While it’s only five months into the year and it might be a little premature to declare, it’s looking like 2018 will belong to Josh Brolin. The seasoned actor put in a sensational motion capture performance as Thanos in the record-smashing Avengers: Infinity War and is set to portray the popular time traveling mutant Cable in Deadpool 2. We wouldn’t bet against these two movies becoming a part of the top 10 highest grossing films of the year.

It isn’t like Brolin needed a big comic book role (never mind two) to cement his status as one of the best actors in Hollywood, mind you. For years he’s starred in award winning films and been showered with accolades for his performances. Truth be told, you would think that Brolin would’ve avoided the comic book movie world after seeing his previous ventures into the genre (Jonah Hex, Men in Black 3, and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For) turn out so-so, but he seems to be game and we should be grateful for it.

Things could’ve turned out differently for Brolin, though. At one point he was earmarked to be the Caped Crusader in the DCEU – something he’s recently said to be grateful for not happening. While the role of the Dark Knight is possibly one of the most coveted in cinema, the actor has found his own success with two other studios and avoided the current drama on the Warner movie lot.

In fact, it’s safe to say that Brolin is the DCEU’s loss and Marvel’s gain.
