Iron Fist Season 2 Confirmed For Late 2018 Premiere, Classic Suit May Feature

During a Reddit AMA held earlier today, Marvel TV producer Jeph Loeb confirmed that Iron Fist will be here later this year.

While most of the television output to have come from Marvel over the past several years has been generally well received by both fans and critics alike, one of the outliers in the franchise was the first season of Netflix’s Iron Fistwhich was largely considered to be the dullest, most unaccomplished outing for the MCU yet on the small screen (at least, until Inhumans came along). Still, the studio decided to order up a second outing and now, Marvel and the streaming service will be hoping to turn things around.

While many feel that there’s not much hope for the show, star Finn Jones has already promised us that the next run will be a significant improvement. In fact, he’s even gone so far as to tease that season 2 will be “unlike anything we’ve seen before.” That’s a bold claim, but given that we’ve also heard from a few other sources that it’ll be drastically improved when it returns, perhaps we should reserve judgement until we see the full thing.

Speaking of which, the exact premiere date for the sophomore run hasn’t been revealed just yet, but in a Reddit AMA held earlier today, producer Jeph Loeb said that Iron Fist season 2 will be with us before the year’s end. When asked by a fan if we can expect to see the classic suit show up at any point, he said: You’ll be very happy with Season 2 coming this year!

This is exciting news for a couple of reasons. One, we now know when to expect the show to return and two, it seems as if Danny Rand will be getting the costume we’re all used to from the comics, which was mostly absent from season 1. Beyond that, we don’t know much about what Marvel has planned, but it’s already been confirmed that several of the cast members are set to reprise their roles. Co-lead Jessica Henwick will be back alongside Jones as Colleen Wing, with Defenders-verse mainstay Rosario Dawson also returning as Claire Temple. Alice Eve is joining the cast, too, in an “undisclosed part,” though it’s thought that she’s playing a version of comic book villain Lady Gorgon.

Following showrunner Scott Buck’s double-whammy of flops in Iron Fist season 1 and Inhumans, he’ll be replaced for season 2 by Sleepy Hollow‘s Raven Metzner, who’s apparently bringing an expert knowledge of the comics and a passion for martial arts movies to the table. Fingers crossed that he can improve upon where the show stumbled in its rookie year and deliver a truly gripping viewing experience.
