Per The Hollywood Reporter, the British Broadcasting Corporation is said to be taking this leak very seriously indeed, as it showed off Jodie Whittaker’s first appearance as the world-famous Time Lord. The fact that said footage emerged four months before the show’s expected return in October left Doctor Who fans furious, and the BBC has now issued a subpoena to Tapatalk, a mobile community platform.

This case is reportedly being handled by the California federal court, and the fact that Tapatalk has been summoned before them tells us that the BBC should be able to get to the bottom of this sooner rather than later. Word is the British broadcaster is “being represented by an attorney at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton, which has carved a bit of a niche in recent years in tackling piracy before big events.”

If you happened to be within a stone’s throw of Twitter last Tuesday, June 26th, you may have stumbled upon said Doctor Who season 11 footage before it was yanked offline. Essentially, it picked up exactly where “Twice Upon a Time” left off, with Jodie Whittaker’s fresh-faced Doctor emerging from the shadows to remark on her radical new appearance, whereas only moments ago she was a white-haired Scotsman. Newfound companions Ryan and Yasmin also featured in the now-deleted clip.

The eleventh season of Doctor Who is expected to return this October, by which point we ought to have a better read on the show’s thirteenth Time Lord. As for this ongoing court case, we’ll keep you posted as more information comes to light.
