Former Daredevil Showrunner Deeply Saddened By James Gunn’s Firing

Taking to Twitter to share his thoughts on the situation, former Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight said he was deeply saddened by it.

James Gunn and Disney have parted ways.

That’s the headline that almost sent the Internet into a collective tailspin this past weekend, when it was announced that Gunn would no longer direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for Marvel Studios.

The fallout has been fast and furious (no surprise there), with many of the director’s frequent collaborators and colleagues – namely Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana – running to his defense and calling on Disney to reassess their decision. In case you missed it, the Mouse House severed all ties with James Gunn after a number of admittedly contentious Tweets resurfaced from 10 years ago – Tweets containing crude rape jokes and other insensitive material.

Now, as Hollywood talent continues to weigh in, Steven DeKnight is the latest to speak up. Though he didn’t offer much, the former Daredevil showrunner shared the following on Twitter:

Been traveling all day back and forth to SDCC. Not completely caught up, but deeply saddened on all fronts. All I have for now.

As mentioned before, DeKnight is just the latest in a long line of celebrities to weigh in on the situation, and his thoughts follow very much in line with what folks like Saldana and Karen Gillan have said. That being that they’re upset by the news, but they’re not willing to say anything more until they’ve had time to digest it all.

That’s in stark contrast to what Guardians actors Bautista and Michael Rooker offered up, with both of the outspoken individuals making their thoughts on the matter very, very clear. And while Disney has yet to provide any kind of statement of their own, as the tremendous amount of support for James Gunn continues to build, we imagine they’ll break the silence sooner rather than later.
