Stellar New Concept Art For Star Trek: Discovery Takes Us Back To Season 1

Concept illustrator Samuel Michlap (h/t TrekMovie) has shared a fresh batch of concept art from Star Trek: Discovery season 1.

It’s no secret that CBS is currently presiding over a wealth of Star Trek content, including the second season of Discovery and that nascent spinoff series featuring Patrick Stewart’s Jean-Luc Picard.

The latter show will purportedly explore the next chapter in the life of Captain Picard (and how exciting is that?), while Discovery‘s sophomore outing will finally bring Spock into the equation.

It was announced just last week that Ethan Peck had landed the role of a lifetime, and all signs point to a truly memorable rendition of the half-human, half-Vulcan, as the show’s creators have promised to deep dive into his family legacy, beginning with the fraught sibling bond between Spock and Michael Burnham (The Walking Dead‘s Sonequa Martin-Green).

But before we get swept up in the excitement of Star Trek: Discovery season 2 and all the promise it brings, a new batch of concept art has emerged from illustrator Samuel Michlap.

First spotted by the folks at TrekMovie, this artwork features alternate designs for the Klingon ships, with a particular emphasis on the foreboding Sarcophagus. All of this is pulled from Star Trek: Discovery season 1, and makes for the perfect compliment to yesterday’s behind-the-scenes photos of Burnham and her co-stars messing around on the flight deck.

Star Trek: Discovery season 2 isn’t expected to take flight until the early stages of 2019, by which point we’ll surely have a better understanding of Patrick Stewart’s Star Trek series and what it will entail. Our guess? A character-driven affair in which Captain Picard has been appointed as Starfleet’s new admiral, replete with possible cameos from the Deep Space Nine and Voyager ensembles. Watch this space for more.
