Avengers: Endgame Directors Address If Gamora Survived Tony’s Snap

There are so many characters involved in Avengers: Endgame that the film wraps up without clarifying the fates of even some of the most important people in the MCU. A big one's Gamora. Thanos' favorite daughter was killed by her father in Avengers: Infinity War, but the younger Gamora from 2014 took part in the grand final battle against the Mad Titan thanks to time travel.

After Iron Man used the Infinity Gauntlet to wipe out Thanos and his forces though, Zoe Saldana’s character wasn’t seen again. As Gamora began the fight on Thanos’s side before deflecting, it’s difficult to say whether Tony’s Snap would have dusted her along with the villains. The last time we saw the Guardians, however, Star-Lord was searching for her whereabouts on the Benatar’s computer, giving us hope that she’s out there somewhere.

But can Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo shed some light on the situation? Well, if they can, they’re not. The duo played coy when asked this by Business Insider and said it’s up to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to answer that question.

“We don’t know whether she was dusted or whether she survived,” Joe commented. “That’s probably a question that “Guardians [3]” will answer,”

Anthony then clarified that Peter Quill is just as clueless as the audience at this stage. “Quill doesn’t know either.”

Putting all the evidence together, it looks like the 2014 Gamora did survive and simply fled the battle after Thanos died – she wouldn’t have hitched a ride with the Guardians though as this is a tougher, younger Gamora who was never softened by finding a family with Star-Lord and the others. Furthermore, Zoe Saldana’s such a major part of the Guardians franchise that she has to have a role in the threequel. As the Russos have confirmed though, any death not caused by the Snap will last, which means she must be playing 2014 Gamora.

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a little while after Avengers: Endgame to find out the answers, as Guardians Vol. 3 isn’t due to shoot until 2020, which means a probable release in 2021, but until then, feel free to speculate down below.
