Jojo Rabbit

Disney Reportedly Concerned About Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit

I guess it should come as no surprise that the House of Mouse is a bit worried about a movie that features a fictionalized version of Adolf Hitler.

While I doubt anyone would argue that it wasn’t a good idea, it seems like Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox has been met with a few pitfalls and roadblocks.

As we’ve previously reported, the House of Mouse is still trying to figure out how to bring Deadpool into the MCU (all while striking a balance between the character’s standalone, R-rated films and more family-friendly Avengers sequels), and the company has made it clear they aren’t too thrilled by the performance of recent X-Men movies, such as Dark Phoenix. It’s also come to light that some execs are not too impressed with The New Mutantswhich is still (on paper, at least) set to release in the first half of 2020.

Needless to say, it looks like a few of the projects acquired during the aforementioned Fox buyout don’t exactly mesh with Disney’s direction, and one film in particular has reportedly raised some concerns – movies which star fictionalized versions of Adolf Hitler have a tendency to do that.

As Variety reports (via CinemaBlend), the upcoming Jojo Rabbit – from Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi – has some at Disney worried. This probably won’t come as a shock to many, considering how protective the company is of its family-friendly reputation. The film, which stars Waititi himself as Hitler, revolves around a lonely boy whose imaginary friend is a more aloof, idiotic version of the infamous German leader.

While it’s highly unlikely that Jojo Rabbit will release without any Disney branding or logos, the concern seems to stem from it being associated with the House of Mouse. Regardless, we’re still curious to check out Waititi’s latest for ourselves, even if it gets shafted thanks to a less-than-stellar release window or limited screenings.
