Is the ‘Black Clover’ anime coming back?

Are more adventures awaiting us?

With Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King dropping on Netflix on June 16, fans have once again raised the lingering question of whether the smash hit anime series will see return for a fifth season. While the show’s ardent fans are waiting to witness more misadventures by Asta and Yuno, sadly there’s been no words of if, when, or whether the production for a fifth season will ever begin.

Sword of the Wizard King was announced as a standalone story independent of established canon, although it does follow the template late down by the anime, which leaves it open to interpretation. Naturally, though, Netflix releasing a feature has reignited hopes of a full-blown return, with many pointing to the drastically-reduced episode count of season 4.

The first three runs boasted 51, 51, and 52 episodes respectively, whereas the fourth was only comprised of 16. There are 361 total chapters in the manga, so there’s clearly plenty of ground still left to cover. As much as fans are desperate to see it happen, though, there hasn’t been any official word on Black Clover making a comeback.

That’s not to say that it won’t, but for the time being, Sword of the Wizard King could mark the swansong for the popular series, but in the event it does end up being renewed again, those with an affinity for the source material will know exactly which of the chapters left untouched will be mined for new adventures.

Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King is available to stream on Netflix, with the TV series on Crunchyroll.
