‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ beginner’s guide: Where to start

There's no better time to start than now.

Jujutsu Kaisen is right around the corner with its second season, so now is the perfect time for newcomers to enter the franchise — but where to start?

Starting any new show can be daunting if you’re jumping in completely green. Still, fortunately, unlike other hit anime series, JJK has a completely manageable amount of content to catch up on. That is if you plan on sticking to anime only.

As you’d expect, the Jujutsu Kaisen show is based on Gege Akutami’s manga of the same name, and if you get really into the story, then this is going to be your best route for following it along. That said, there’s no need to read the manga just to enjoy the anime, and here is the best point to start.

There are two routes to kick off your Jujutsu Kaisen journey, but the best is going to be first watching season one of the show.

Season one of Jujutsu Kaisen’s anime will bring you up to speed on everything in the show ahead of its second season, and more importantly, fully educate you on the Jujutsu sorcerer world.

If you’d prefer to do things chronologically, starting with Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is also an acceptable way to begin.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is a prequel to the main series created before the initial numbered volumes of the manga. This story introduces you to some of the characters we meet in the series, but its leading star is someone you’ll only get to learn about if you watch the film — so it’s a must-watch.

If you choose to start off with the show, then have no fear! You can easily slide Jujutsu Kaisen 0 in after as an appetizer before season two.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s entire catalog is available to stream now on Crunchyroll, the same place where episodes of season two will air weekly through July, August, and September. Now is the perfect time to dive in!
