Where to watch the ‘Oshi no Ko’ anime

Idol life just got much darker than expected.

Adapted from a manga series of the same name, Oshi no Ko is the latest anime release from Doga Kobo studio. By the author Aka Akasaka and with illustrations by Mengo Yokoyari, the series tells the story of Aquamarine Hoshino and his sister, Ruby, two souls who have been reincarnated as the children of a popular idol, Ai.

Filled with drama, Oshi no Ko follows these characters’ journey to uncover who is truly behind the murder of their mother, and whether or not their father had something to do with the occurrence. Needless to say, visually, the anime is very distinct from the story’s core themes, with colorful characters drawing the audience’s attention first and foremost. Perhaps this contrast is what attracts so many fans to the series, which has become increasingly popular lately, despite its manga only being around since April 2020.

The manga’s success led to the announcement of an anime adaptation in 2022, and now, the project has finally come to fruition. Oshi no Ko‘s first season premiered on April 12 and fans cannot wait for more. In Japan, the anime episodes are being broadcast on several networks, like Tokyo MX, KBS Kyoto, and Sun TV. Unfortunately, though, international fans of the series aren’t as lucky, meaning they will have to turn to streaming platforms to watch Oshi no Ko, as is customary with most anime releases.

How to stream Oshi no Ko

At the time of writing, Oshi no Ko is only available for streaming on HIDIVE, an independent, subscription-based platform that offers a selection of anime series and movies in both subtitled and dubbed versions. Oshi no Ko in particular is being simulcast, meaning that new episodes hit the platform at the same time as or just a little behind their Japanese release.

Those wishing to sign up to access HIDIVE content can do so for $4.99 per month or $47.99 per year. If that’s too much of a commitment and viewers would like to test the waters first, the platform also has a seven-day free trial option available for first-time subscribers.

There currently is no information regarding the possibility of Oshi no Ko being distributed to global audiences by other networks or services, so for the time being, HIDIVE is the only legal option for fans of the series. The platform is available in the following regions: North America, Latin America, Central America, South America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.

If you’re looking for a wild ride, Oshi no Ko is the anime for you.
