The G.I. Joe film series has been in stasis since the release of G.I. Joe: Retaliation back in 2013, but that stasis will soon come to an end. A new G.I. movie is set to release this October, an origins feature dubbed Snake Eyes, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, production tag team Paramount and Hasbro are already developing a follow-up.
Life has gotten pretty strange in the last month. Coronavirus went from a localized outbreak to a global pandemic and governments rushed to contain the spread (often too late to prevent a hemorrhage of casualties), with resultant lockdowns forcing billions to adjust to a “new normal.” Pretty heady, pretty strange. But I guarantee things aren’t as strange as they are for a community in the English county of Norfolk.
Film production may be on pause for the time being, what with lockdowns and all (who’da thought?), but that hasn’t stopped studios from preparing for future releases and it hasn’t stopped us looking at where they’ll go next. One of those future releases is set to be a live-action remake of classic animation Hercules.
It’s one of the more surprising sequels to come around in recent years. Space Jam 2 has been in development for more than two decades, and after several false starts, it’s finally in production. High time it got an official title then, don’t you think? Well, you’d think right.
A new photo from the set of Avatar 2 gives us a first look at Sigourney Weaver at work on the long-delayed pic, which is currently down to release in 2021.
As the severity of the coronavirus became clear and nations effectively began shutting down their economies, film studios found themselves in the unprecedented situation of having to postpone major releases, at the cost of millions of dollars. Movies initially in the firing line included Marvel’s Phase Four opener Black Widow and No Time to Die, Daniel Craig’s last as James Bond.
Tiger King, the surprise Netflix breakout of 2020, has dropped out of the streaming service’s top 10 for the first time since it was released just over a month ago. The show, part real-life drama, part documentary, part fiction (who knows which parts), followed the lives of American big cat owners over the course of several years, eventually zeroing in on self-professed “Tiger King” Joe Exotic’s notorious fall from grace – though grace is a very loose way to describe his lifestyle up to the show’s conclusion.
Viewer choice just keeps growing and growing. Yesterday, Disney announced that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker would debut on Disney+ on May 4th, ensuring the entire “Skywalker Saga” will be available to stream on one platform.
