I'm a writer/editor who's been at the site since 2015. I cover politics, weird history, video games and... well, anything really. Keep it breezy, keep it light, keep it straightforward.
The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith are some of the most debated movies in history. Since their release in the early 2000s, they've generated reams of heated discussion as to their merits and for a long time, the prequels were considered beyond redemption, with their reputation reaching a low point sometime around the premiere of The Force Awakens. But after the failure of The Rise of Skywalker, many are re-evaluating the Star Wars flicks and realizing that while they're certainly not perfect, there's quite a lot to like there.
Had everything gone to plan, we might have already seen Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The sequel was originally slated to shoot in 2019 for a 2020 release, but all that changed when writer/director James Gunn was briefly cancelled over some old tweets. In the interim, he signed up to direct Warner Bros.’ The Suicide Squad, and the delay caused by that was compounded by COVID-19 pushing all MCU movies back.
1984's Ghostbusters was one of the biggest hits of the 1980s and from its first weekend a sequel was inevitable. Yet it took almost five years for Ghostbusters II to hit screens, with the end result generally being considered a much lesser movie than its predecessor. Part of the reason was simply that it was hard to get the principal cast back together, with Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Ackroyd and Ernie Hudson all pursuing solo careers in the interim.
Godzilla vs. Kong is a hit with critics and audiences and is doing well at the box office even during a pandemic. As such, director Adam Wingard is on a roll. Prior to this, he proved his skills in a series of excellent genre movies, with the highlights being You're Next and The Guest. He also directed Netflix's live-action Death Note, which anime fans hated but honestly isn't that bad. And for his next project, he's looking to Third Earth for a live-action adaptation of beloved 1980s cartoon ThunderCats.
