I'm a writer/editor who's been at the site since 2015. I cover politics, weird history, video games and... well, anything really. Keep it breezy, keep it light, keep it straightforward.
August is coming, and Disney Plus is set to bolster its line-up with three new additions to its ever-expanding streaming library of superhero adventures.
One of the nicest surprises in Avengers: Endgame was Mark Ruffalo's chilled out 'smart' Hulk. Throughout Avengers: Infinity War the Hulk refused to emerge after having been pummelled by Thanos in the opening scenes. Writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely originally planned for this situation to resolve itself during the final battle, with Banner and Hulk merging during a fight with Cull Obsidian (probably bursting out of the Hulkbuster armor in the process).
The Boys exceeded all expectations last summer and scored record audiences for Amazon Prime. The second season lands on September 4th and after trailers, promotional pictures and multiple interviews, we're pretty hyped for what's coming. Much of that is because, after the already gonzo first season, pretty much the entire cast and crew have insisted that season 2 is going to be much, much crazier.
A recommendation from horror master Stephen King can go a long way. One of the things I like most about him is his willingness to champion movies and TV shows regardless of what the critical consensus is. I was particularly pleased when he named the Child's Play remake as one of his favorite horror titles of 2019, thus giving it a much-deserved boost online. Now he's named an extremely obscure British show that's over a decade old as his pick of the summer.
So far 2020 has, to put it mildly, sucked. So it's not surprising that in this maelstrom of bad vibes people have latched on to one of the few rays of sunlight around. This has come in the form of six-year-old Bridger Walker. The Wyoming boy has become a social media star after saving his sister from a dog attack. When a German shepherd charged towards his four-year-old sister, he shielded her from the dog and suffered a brutal mauling. This required a four-hour surgery involving 90 stitches, but Walker doesn't have any regrets. When asked why he did what he did, he said: "if someone had to die, I thought it should be me."
Home Alone is now firmly established as a holiday season classic, so much so that there were cries of anger when the movie was pulled from Disney+ at the end of 2019. But fans of the premise won't be left empty-handed for long, as the wheels are beginning to turn on a reboot of the concept that will air on Disney+. Multiple sources are reporting that Kenan Thompson, Ally Maki and Chris Parnell have all joined the cast.
Warner Bros and DC were once notorious for keeping a tight grip on how their superhero IPs were used. Those days came to end after the failure of Justice League, though it's only now that we're hearing the first plans about how crazy the DCEU could soon get. In particular, the announcement that Michael Keaton is in talks to reprise the Burtonverse Batman role, eventually becoming a kind of Nick Fury that connects various realities together indicates that there are big things in the pipeline.
Multiverse fever is in the air! The DCEU has announced its plans to explore alternate universes and now it's apparently the MCU's turn. According to a report by ScreenRant, the post-Avengers Endgame Phase 4 will see Marvel Studios branch out and begin exploring a minimum of three alternative universes and timelines.
Actor, comedian, musician and TV host Nick Cannon has been fired by ViacomCBS for an episode of his podcast 'Cannon's Class' which "promoted hateful speech and spread anti-Semitic conspiracy theories." The America's Got Talent and The Masked Singer hosted former public enemy member Richard "Professor Griff" Griffin (who was fired from the group in 1989 for anti-semitism) for an interview released on 30 June.
Sony’s Uncharted is back on track. Production was shut down due to Coronavirus earlier this year, though they're back on set now and to mark the occasion, star Tom Holland has shared a picture (seen below) of his chair, which reads 'Nate.' This is what hero Nathan Drake is called by his friends and is proof that this long in development video game adaptation is actually going to happen.
