After the success of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, rumors began flying that Sony Pictures were actively pursuing a live-action equivalent. Where the animated film brought together various comic book versions of Spider-Man, this would show Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland teaming up, as well as introducing a live-action Miles Morales.
One of the most useful abilities of a Jedi's lightsaber is that it can block and deflect blaster fire. It's a good thing they can do this, too, as otherwise, most Jedi careers would end pretty quickly. We first saw this in Star Wars way back in 1977, when Luke was sparring with a combat remote on the Millennium Falcon soon after receiving Anakin's blue lightsaber. The skill was featured much more heavily in the prequels though, where we saw that fully trained Jedi were able to instinctively block and direct a hail of incoming blaster fire.
James McAvoy's performances in the X-Men movies were warmly received, with the actor believably playing a younger version of Patrick Stewart's Professor Charles Xavier. Now, fan artist Spdrmnkyxxiii has imagined McAvoy in Stewart's most iconic role, Star Trek's Captain Jean-Luc Picard, and it's an image that makes you imagine how cool a prequel TV show about a younger Picard could be.
Ennio Morricone, one of the most iconic film composers of all time, has died at the age of 91. Morricone rose to prominence in the 1960s with his timeless and memorable scores for Sergio Leone's 'spaghetti westerns' starring Clint Eastwood. His music for A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly remains some of the most effective scoring work in cinematic history and even a tiny excerpt of them are instantly recognisable.
Rassilon. The name might not mean much to the general public, but seasoned Doctor Who fans will shudder at it as he's one of the Doctor's most dangerous foes. Rassilon is the founder of the Time Lord society that the Doctor hails from and is credited with many innovations, most notably TARDIS technology. Unfortunately, though, he's also a power-mad dictator, which has put him in opposition to the Doctor and their companions on multiple occasions.
The Metal Gear Solid movie has now been in development for 15 years. Over that time, the video game franchise has come to an end, with creator Hideo Kojima leaving developer Konami to make bizarro hit Death Stranding. As such, it sounds like it's been an uphill battle for director Jordan Vogt-Roberts to get the green light, despite his inexhaustible passion for the property.
Samuel L. Jackson's Mace Windu was one of the more memorable Jedi from the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy. He was renowned as an exceptionally skilled warrior, became a Jedi General and personally participated in some of the biggest battles of the Clone Wars. But despite his wisdom and skill, he didn't see Darth Sidious' manipulations until it was too late. Windu valiantly tried to take down the Sith Lord, but Anakin Skywalker intervened just as he was about to strike him down. In the ensuing struggle, Windu's hand was chopped off, he was electrocuted with Force Lightning and then blasted out of a window.
John Constantine certainly gets around. He debuted in 1984 in Alan Moore's Swamp Thing and has gone on to feature in all variety of adventures, from his critically acclaimed adult-orientated Vertigo series Hellblazer to a leadership role on the superhero team Justice League Dark. Now, rumblings suggest that he's due to appear across multiple movies and TV shows - so much so that DC are reportedly considering doubling up.
