I'm a writer/editor who's been at the site since 2015. I cover politics, weird history, video games and... well, anything really. Keep it breezy, keep it light, keep it straightforward.
Jordan Vogt-Roberts is admirably dedicated to his Metal Gear Solid movie. The cinematic adaptation of Hideo Kojima's beloved video game series has been in various stages of development for years, with the Kong: Skull Island director frequently updating fans via social media on what's new with the project (lately, not much). Over the years, he's shared pieces of concept art from the film, and this week he's released a very cool new image showing off the pic's nuclear-equipped walking death mobile: Metal Gear REX.
Robert Pattinson suddenly has a lot of time on his hands. Possibly too much time, as one reporter sent to interview him discovered. With The Batman on hiatus until the COVID-19 lockdown is lifted in the United Kingdom, the star is lounging around at home without much to do. The interview already revealed that Pattinson is being a bit blase about his workout routine as he considers the hyper-strict superhero body diet and exercise regime to be harmful. That might be the case, but it appears Pattinson's culinary skills are also pretty damn dangerous.
James Cameron is one of the biggest directors working today. He's won multiple Academy Awards, scores colossal budgets and regularly breaks all-time box office records. With all that under his belt, you might think that he'd be quite the cinema snob. Well, think again, as Cameron has just revealed that he's a big fan of 2002's Resident Evil.
Aside from a few wobbles, Star Trek: Picard delivered what it promised. We got to see Patrick Stewart's beloved Captain Jean-Luc Picard return for more adventures, reuniting with several The Next Generation buddies along the way. But the show's new characters were no slouches when it came to keeping up with the veterans. I particularly enjoyed Isa Briones' Soji, Michelle Hurd's Raffi Musiker and Harry Treadaway's scheming Romulan secret agent Narek.
Frank Herbert's epic science-fiction series Dune is a tricky nut to crack. The iconic series presents a complex and often bizarre fictional universe, yet readers who immerse themselves in it almost always recognize its greatness. Director David Lynch famously took a crack at it early in his career, but his 1984 Dune bombed at the box office and set him on a trajectory away from blockbuster cinema. With Denis Villeneuve's new take on the material out this year, those involved in the 1984 film have been asked whether they want to see it.
The third season of Twin Peaks was some of the greatest television I've ever seen. Arriving 26 years after season 2 wrapped up, David Lynch and Mark Frost's TV comeback smashed all expectations, continuing the story started so long ago while taking us in some intense and crazy new directions. The season ended on an appropriately enigmatic tone as well, with Agent Dale Cooper apparently trapped in the past with an alternate version of Laura Palmer.
