Space Force is shaping up to be something special. The upcoming Netflix comedy show reunites The Office creators Greg Daniels and Steve Carell and is based on the newest branch of the United States Military: the titular Space Force. Ever since the real-life announcement was made, the very idea of this has been met with amusement and this new series looks to capitalize on that by showing it as a plucky underdog getting pushed around by the other branches of the military.
Netflix has been a lifeline over the last two months of lockdown. Smash hits like Tiger King have given people something to talk about other than a deadly virus and many folks have taken the chance to catch up with some shows they might have missed (I finally watched Hannibal, and it was great). But if you're running low on material that interests you, there are some really cool Netflix Originals scheduled for July.
The synopsis for Batwoman's season finale hinted that we were due an appearance from "one of Gotham's former heroes." I figured the Dark Knight was too obvious, especially as introducing him to the show would inevitably take focus away from Kate Kane/Batwoman. But while Batman didn't show up, Bruce Wayne did. Kinda. In a twist that, in retrospect, we should have seen coming, Alice gave Tommy Elliot/Hush a new face: Bruce Wayne's.
Keanu Reeves fans will be more annoyed by COVID-19 than most. The lockdowns have not only resulted in John Wick 4 and The Matrix 4 being delayed (thus ruining plans for Keanu Reeves Day on May 21st, 2021), but they may see The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run and Bill & Ted Face the Music skip theaters altogether. They're currently scheduled for theatrical release on August 7th and August 28th, respectively, but an industry analyst thinks it's very likely that they'll now be heading straight to digital.
Over the lockdown, I've noticed a pattern of lighthearted movies taking over Netflix. Coffee & Kareem was the talk of the platform for about a week and Despicable Me made a big comeback to take the number one spot from Tiger King a few weeks back. Of course, both of these have one thing in common: they have absolutely nothing to do with coronavirus.
A long time ago in a place far, far away, the Star Wars fandom was pretty tightly knit. The sixteen years between the releases of Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace were generally fairly quiet, with fans uniting over books, video games and comics. But ever since the Prequel Trilogy, certain fans have been getting angrier and angrier, with the 2018 release of The Last Jedi tipping a lot of people right over the edge.
It's a been a bumper few years for Star Trek. Discovery and Picard have each explored different corners of the Trek universe, and now CBS All Access has just confirmed that they're going to be joined by Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. This new show will focus on the adventures of Captain Pike, Spock and Number One, continuing their stories after season 2 of Discovery and apparently taking them almost to the point where The Original Series begins.
