Netflix Reportedly Wants Scarlett Johansson For Live-Action Ghost In The Shell Show
2017's Ghost in the Shell was a critical and financial disappointment, scoring 44% on the Tomatometer and making just $170m on a $110m budget. On top of that, the film picked up some significant bad publicity after it was accused of whitewashing by casting Scarlett Johansson as lead character Major Motoko Kusanagi. I think the film got a pretty bad rap: it's got a neat aesthetic, cool action scenes, and the narrative directly addresses the 'whitewashing' accusation.

Universal Says They Remain Committed To VOD Despite AMC Theatres Threat
Cinema chains have long argued against the notion of simultaneous theatrical/VOD releases of major movies. While studios have repeatedly shown an interest in shortening the theatrical release window of films, theaters have used their leverage to maintain the current system. For example, in 2011, Universal experimented with releasing Ben Stiller movie Tower Heist in a compressed three-week window before going straight to the home market. Theaters revolted and refused to screen it, forcing them to abandon the plan.

Andrew Lincoln’s Walking Dead Movies No Longer Coming To Theaters
While The Walking Dead fans were sad to see Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes leave the show, they at least have a movie trilogy spinoff about the character to look forward to. These were originally planned to air on AMC as a TV special, but in 2019 it was revealed that they'd upgraded them to full theatrical releases. However, that now may never happen and the reason, as anyone who pays attention to movie news will have guessed, is AMC's beef with Universal's release policies during the Coronavirus outbreak.

Regal Cinemas Slams Universal, Calls Their Decision Completely Inappropriate
This week has seen some very bad blood between AMC Entertainment and Universal Pictures. The two companies have beef with each other over Trolls World Tour. The film was originally scheduled for a theatrical release on April 10th, but due to the Coronavirus pandemic shutting down practically all theaters, Universal Pictures decided to release it on VOD. At first glance, this makes sense. After all, with cinemas closed, why not target the huge audience of bored children stuck at home?

Harrison Ford Now Under Investigation By FAA For Piloting Error
Star Wars and Indiana Jones star Harrison Ford has become increasingly known for his piloting hobby. The actor has been flying for years and has been involved in humanitarian missions, search and rescues, and assisting with wildfires. But he's also had a couple of close shaves too. A couple of years back Ford landed on the wrong part of John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California, flying over an American Airlines jet. He also once had to make an emergency landing on a golf course, though the cause was engine failure and it was ruled not to be his fault.

Robert Downey Jr. May’ve Just Teased Iron Man’s Return To The MCU
By most accounts, Robert Downey Jr. is done with the MCU. His time as Iron Man helped launch one of the biggest movie franchises of all time, earned him legions of adoring fans and millions upon millions of dollars. Since Stark's death in Avengers: Endgame, some have hoped that he would one day return from the dead and reprise the role. It seems unlikely, but those people got quite a boost yesterday when Downey Jr. made a remark that could leave the door open to it happening.

Jurassic World And Amazing Spider-Man Actor Irrfan Khan Dies At Age 53
Actor Irrfan Khan, who was known for his appearances in Jurassic World, The Life of Pi, The Amazing Spider-Man and Slumdog Millionaire has died at age 53. Khan was diagnosed with a rare neuroendocrine tumor in 2018 and had been undergoing treatment for it in London. He was admitted to a Mumbai hospital yesterday, where he succumbed to an infection related to his illness.
