I'm a writer/editor who's been at the site since 2015. I cover politics, weird history, video games and... well, anything really. Keep it breezy, keep it light, keep it straightforward.
Runaways poses the question that every teenager has wondered from time to time: are my parents supervillains? Well, Alex, Nico, Karolina, Gertrude, Chase and Molly are about to find out the answer to that question in the most literal way possible.
Star Wars has always pushed the envelope of special effects technology. From the still impressive Death Star run in A New Hope, through to the technical (if not narrative) success of Jar Jar Binks in The Phantom Menace. But the most eye-catching effect the franchise has produced of late is the CGI resurrection of Peter Cushing's Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One. Now, courtesy of a new video released by ILM Visual FX, we can get an idea of just how much work went into this most delicate of special effects operations.
It's almost cliche to criticize the grim tone of the DC Extended Universe at this stage, which is just one factor that may have led to today's news that Warner Bros. is moving away from an MCU style 'cinematic universe' after Justice League. But ever since Superman snapped General Zod's neck like a twig, people have been complaining that these films simply aren't very cheery, with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice being a particularly morose and self-serious cinematic affair.
Today's interview with DC Creative Officer Geoff Johns and DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson explained that, post-Justice League, Warner Bros. is planning to de-emphasize the shared universe across their films. Now, we know a little bit more as to how it'll be structured.
Another day, another batch of Ant-Man and The Wasp set photos. I guess shooting a major Marvel movie in the middle of the day in downtown Atlanta will lead to a horde of curious spectators all armed with camera phones, and this is simply the result. Today's serving, while not terribly exciting gives us another look at Evangeline Lilly in full Wasp outfit and hanging out by a dumpster between shots.
General Hux actor Domhnall Gleeson has revealed that the first time he read Rian Johnson's script for The Last Jedi, he found that it was different to what he expected. Now, this isn't exactly the scoop of the century, and is in keeping with the Star Wars actors notoriously tight lips when it comes to discussing what actually happens in these films. Still, it ties into the growing feeling that Rian Johnson's take on the franchise is going to take it in exciting new directions.
Watching a TV show about a zombie apocalypse and complaining that it's a bit gory is kind of silly. Yet that's what precisely what some viewers of the season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead did. Shocked by what can happen in a world full of hungry reanimated corpses and desperate survivors, they filed complaints with the FCC demanding that AMC tone down the violence in the show for good, possibly recommending that the walkers now merely give their victims a friendly hug and the survivors hold dainty little tea parties.
Now this, is more like it. I think I've been justifiably critical of all of Warner Bros.' promotional posters for Justice League to date. The vast majority of them have been garish collages of press shots haphazardly assembled in the most boring possible configurations. Now, finally, they've broken the mold with these striking images summarizing each member of the League with a distinctive color and a moody headshot.
