Prior to directing The Big Year, David Frankel had directed The Devil Wears Prada and Marley & Me, both of which were based on very popular novels. The nonfiction book, The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature, and Fowl Obsession, was one that was geared toward more of a niche crowd. That didn’t stop Frankel from creating a film about three men competing to see who can spot the most birds across the United States in one year.
“Oh, God,” are Dexter’s final words for the season. They’re mine as well. Even though I knew that the writers would eventually weave in the plot line of Debra finding out her brother is a serial killer, it still caught me by surprise. I’m still trying to figure out my feelings for the episode.
I found it strange when Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter got married in real life and they play brother and sister in Dexter. They’re divorced now, but it always made me wonder how odd it must be to be married to the man playing your brother.
We found out last week that Professor Gellar has been dead this whole time and Travis has been acting alone in the Doomsday Killer murder sprees. Dexter now knows what the plan is and this week, he sets out to capture Travis. The only catch is that Dex must keep hidden from Miami Metro the fact that Travis is the only killer out there. He wants Travis all to his own and even though the serial killer is currently the most wanted criminal, Dexter will do anything to capture him for himself.
Director Gavin Wiesen, who just released his directorial debut called The Art of Getting By, slightly based the film on some personal experiences that one may have had or may soon experience in high school. Recently, he sat down with us to discuss the making of the film, some of his favorite directors and his upcoming projects.
Prior to this week’s episode of Dexter, a rumor had circulated about how Gellar was already dead and Travis was just imagining him as still alive. At the very end of this episode, we find out that this is true. Gellar was just a figment of Travis’ imagination and, as far as we know, Travis murdered his victims single-handedly. Dexter does question himself in the voice-over narration, wondering if Travis might have had another accomplice or not. And while we haven’t seen Travis with anybody else, and it’s already the ninth episode with only three left for the season, I do have a sneaking suspicion of one person who could have possibly helped him.
After last week’s detour episode, Dexter gets back on track with our favorite serial killer/forensics investigator returning back to Miami and tracking down Travis and Geller. Sin of Omission also has Debra becoming more curious about what her baby brother is doing. He just got back from an unexpected five day vacation and he hardly sits down to talk to Debra about what’s troubling him. With Debra becoming more suspicious, one has to wonder how long it will be until she finds out the truth about Dexter.
Amanda Seyfried hasn’t picked the best roles in her career. Her last several films, including this year’s Red Riding Hood, have been colossal misfires in terms of both critical and box office reception. Her upcoming film, Gone, looks like it might be an OK thriller, but with a February release date, I fear that it may be another stinker for the young actress.
Fans of Dexter can breathe a sigh of relief. After a brief scuffle in October that could have made this current season the last, Showtime has announced that the hit forensics investigator/serial killer show will go on for two more seasons. The agreement was reached today, according to Deadline.
After the shocking twist in last week’s episode, Dexter returns to show that our main character has a much darker side than the fans would expect. It doesn’t last long in this episode, though. With the return of Brian Moser, a.k.a The Ice Truck Killer and Dexter’s brother, Dexter tosses everything he has in Florida and decides to take a road trip to Nebraska. Why Nebraska? Apparently, Trinity has killed again. Sally and Rebecca Mitchell, Trinity’s wife and daughter, are now dead. Jonah, Trinity’s son, is still alive and was able to escape, according to Deb. Of course, Dexter killed Trinity at the end of season four before finding Rita in a bathtub full of blood. So who could have done this?
