Without a doubt, it's a good time to be a fan of all things X-Men, especially if you're into the comic books. And it's not just the plethora of expected team-up series that have begun flooding comic shops, but also exciting new solo titles as well. One such example that you could say is arriving in the nick of time is that of Cable.
Despite many of us boasting some impressive comic book collections that no doubt contain first appearances and other key occurrences, it's probably safe to say that the debuts of longstanding characters such as Spider-Man, Batman and Superman will elude us in our lifetime - well, at least the original printings, that is.
Although last night's episode of Arrow, "Underneath," may not have been one of season 5's strongest offerings, you have to admit that it was pretty intense nonetheless. After all, seeing Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak forced to rely on their wits to avoid almost certain death while Team Arrow 2.0 tried to rescue them from the opposite end made for some compelling television, romantic flashbacks be damned.
To this day, there are a handful of iconic roles associated with the immortal Arnold Schwarzenegger, the most recognizable (arguably) of those being the T-800. Having successfully catapulted the bodybuilder-turned-actor's career into the stratosphere with 1984's The Terminator, director James Cameron came back for another round in 1991 with Terminator 2: Judgement Day, sparking endless debate amongst the geek community in the time since as to which film is superior. Personally, I lean toward the original, but appreciate the merits of both.
Although the "Black Dawn" story arc currently unfolding in the pages of Superman may not be as strong as previous offerings, we can probably all agree that it's still a decent read and that the creative team of Peter J. Tomasi, Pat Gleason and Doug Mahnke haven't really steered us wrong since taking the wheel at the start of Rebirth.
Even though we've got some time ahead of us before cameras start rolling on The Batman, I think we can all agree in saying that it's been a long, strange journey thus far. One of the hot button topics surrounding the film has been which villain(s) will be utilized, something that's always an important point of discussion with any superhero flick. It seemed like some of our suspicions were put to bed given that Joe Manganiello had been cast as Deathstroke, but recent developments may have amended that creative decision given that new director Matt Reeves may want to completely retool the script.
If you collected comic books in the 1990's, you probably remember all the fancy covers we were treated to in that era. Heck, I still have my copies of each issue from X-Men's "Fatal Attractions" story arc with the holograms on the front covers. In recent years, major publishers have recaptured this magic, including DC with Death of the Family getting the die-cut treatment. And, as it turns out, more bedazzling is on the horizon with Dark Days.
Originally, this space was set to be devoted to coverage of this year’s Midwest Media Expo (M2X), but due to some unforeseen circumstances, it wasn’t meant to be as one of the biggest shows devoted to geek culture in the Detroit area was cancelled at the eleventh hour. Thankfully, NotCon 2017 rose from its ashes and showed those in attendance one hell of a good time.
After a simple report detailing a drop in ratings for both Gotham and Supergirl ignited much discussion on social media, we've found it incumbent that we continue monitoring this delicate situation as we find it unfortunate that some of our favorite superhero shows are continuing to dip in viewership numbers.
To date, DC All Access has provided in depth looks at whatever the brand has going on, be it in comics, movies, animation, TV, video games or any other miscellanea, pretty much on a daily basis. With that, they've released a rather nifty video delving into the history of Justice League Dark, and although it's a bit odd that they've elected to drop this several months after the release of the animated film, it's no less intriguing.
