Although the Rebirth initiative has demanded much attention from readers since it kicked off last June, it's imperative that the bounty of stellar miniseries put forth by DC in the time since don't go overlooked. With titles such as Super Powers and Deadman: Dark Mansion of Forbidden Love catering to fans of all sorts, another one we feel is worthy of your attention is that of Midnighter and Apollo.
With the third issue of Justice League vs. Suicide Squad set to drop this week, it's important that we not forget the first major tie-in to the mini-series is also on its way in the form of Justice League #12.
By now, we’re all well aware that Geoff Johns, DC Entertainment’s chief creative officer, is a very busy man. Having written definitive tales such as Blackest Night, Infinite Crisis, and Flashpoint were but among a few things that made him the right person for the job to oversee DC’s various ventures into film, television, and video games. Heck, he even recently teased that there’s more to come in the new year regarding the publisher’s dominance of the small screen.
While we anxiously await to see what next summer's Batman-centric event ultimately entails, let's just sit back and enjoy the wild ride that is Justice League vs. Suicide Squad. Featuring two superpowered teams that are headlining some of DC's biggest major motion pictures, this mega-crossover event has so far succeeded in delivering sprawling action sequences and an enthralling story, while also including some rather unexpected villains from around the DC Universe united under one Maxwell Lord.
With all the serious developments having occurred over in the recently concluded Civil War II, it seems as though Marvel wishes to have a little fun before 2016 comes to a close. And what better way to do that than to take a little jab at your biggest competitor? With softball games between rival publishers possibly being a thing of the past, the House of Ideas decided to go with a not so subtle jest in the pages of Spider-Man/Deadpool #12.
Although Justice League vs. Suicide Squad is well underway, that doesn't mean it's too soon for DC to start teasing their next major crossover event. Furthermore, it doesn't come as any surprise that the publisher realizes who is their most bankable superhero, just as WB's motion picture division does: Batman. And it's likely due to the fact that he will find himself at the epicenter of whatever this grand tale may be.
It goes without saying that superstar scribe Scott Snyder accomplished much during his five-year-long run on Batman with artist Greg Capullo: They created the Court of Owls, who can now be prominently seen on Gotham; redefined the Joker in horrifying new ways; reinterpreted the Dark Knight's origins with Zero Year; and even had Jim Gordon don the cowl for about a year. So to see the innovative writer take the Caped Crusader in unexpected directions with his new opus, All-Star Batman, there's much excitement to be had whenever readers open up the latest issue.
Less than a day after releasing the first trailer promoting the midseason premiere of Arrow that has everybody talking, The CW is not content to rest on their laurels (pun intended) and is already treating us to full clips taken from returning episodes. Last night, we got a taste of The Flash, with today bringing new looks at both Arrow and Supergirl.
With a trailer for the midseason premiere of The Flash already having been released, it appears the network is now willing to offer a full clip from the returning episode - four weeks in advance, no less. On the positive side, it makes the winter hiatus easier to endure.
Last week, DC TV devotees were finally treated to looks at the returning episodes of Supergirl and The Flash, and then later DC's Legends of Tomorrow. But there was one obvious piece of the puzzle missing. Thankfully, Arrow fans can now stop holding their breath as the first trailer for its midseason premiere has finally been released.
