While we've seen that the Monitor, John Deegan and a black-suited Superman (possibly Superman Prime) will serve as the antagonists in the upcoming "Elseworlds" crossover, we'll no doubt be treated to a variety of Easter eggs pertaining to other DC villains once we get the chance to visit Gotham City.
With the next major Arrowverse crossover, "Elseworlds," being set to commence in a matter of days, The CW sure aren't resting on their laurels assuming everyone has jumped aboard the bandwagon. And after teasing us with yet another trailer just last night, they've opted to flood the internet with even more photos promoting what's sure to be an unforgettable three-night event.
As I'd previously suspected, tonight's episode of Arrow, "Unmasked," had dual meaning to its title. Not only did it see Oliver Queen now operating out in the open and officially sanctioned by the SCPD, but it also wasted little time in revealing the face of the new vigilante in town - albeit in private. That's right, only we the viewers are in on the secret.
Right now, it may be too early to label any one person as being the main villain of the upcoming "Elseworlds" crossover, but all signs point toward that being the Monitor. After all, the closing moments of last night's episode of Supergirl did see him decimate Earth-90.
Despite all of its divisiveness, I believe the DC Extended Universe existing on the motion picture side of things has had its merits. But as a longtime lover of characters originating from that publisher, I must admit I've been much more satisfied by what's been accomplished on TV during the last decade. Hey, when people are capable of redefining Green Arrow and the Flash in a shared continuity bringing obscure heroes and villains such as Firestorm and Agent Liberty to brilliant life, I'm guaranteed to enthusiastically applaud.
With the "Elseworlds" crossover being just under one week away from commencing, The CW sure aren't taking it for granted that everyone out there is going in prepared. Just last night, we were pleasantly blindsided by an ominous prologue for the event during the closing moments of Supergirl, showing the Monitor seemingly laying waste to Earth-90.
For us fans of Gotham, the wait for the fifth and final season has been hard to endure, doubly so because of the Batman prequel series not premiering during the fall as it had for the previous four years. But now that we’re merely weeks away from showtime, the network is strategically teasing us with new footage.
Despite Batman having been name-dropped on various episodes of Titans, you can't really take for granted which DC characters exist within that universe. After all, much red tape has separated various divisions of Warner Bros. for years. Heck, The Batman, an animated series, was prohibited from using Scarecrow, Ra's al Ghul and Two-Face, lest viewers confuse them with the live action iterations existing in Christopher Nolan's movies. Seriously.
Though I'm admittedly behind on Netflix's Daredevil series, I'm right there with the rest of you lamenting the show's sudden cancellation. I mean, not only is Hornhead one of my favorite Marvel characters overall, but the gritty take presented on the streaming service made for riveting stuff.
Though Arrow is often regarded as being the father of the appropriately titled "Arrowverse" - and rightfully so - it's important we not forget how Smallville laid the groundwork several years before. Hey, had it not introduced its own version of Oliver Queen, played by Justin Hartley, and featured a myriad of other guest DC heroes and villains, then The CW would've never pondered a solo series focused on the Emerald Archer in the first place.
