The Universal Pictures Scarface remake has landed Paul Attanasio as its screenwriter, who is poised to rework an original draft by End of Watch’s David Ayer. The project, fostered by producers Martyn Bregman and Marc Shmuger, is touted to be a modern day take on previous Scarface big screen outings, the 1932 and 1983 films.
The first trailer for the remake to Brian DePalma’s 1976 classic Carrie has arrived online tonight after its debut at the New York Comic-Con this past weekend. A true teaser, the preview takes a bird’s eye view of Carrie’s hometown up in flames leading to the shot we’ve all been waiting for: Carrie dripping with pig’s blood.

The closing chapter in Edgar Wright’s “Cornetto Trilogy”, The World’s End, has a new poster unveiled today along with a U.S. release date. Filming is underway for the third act of Wright’s film universe which began with zombie geek comedy, Shaun Of The Dead followed by the not-quite-as-funny Hot Fuzz. Returning to the fold are Wright stalwarts, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost who are joined by new blood Paddy Considine (Tyrannosaur, Dead Man’s Shoes) and Martin Freeman (Love Actually).
Paramount Pictures have delayed the release of Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters for two weeks ensuring it gets a simultaneous IMAX release. Starring Jeremy Renner as Hansel and the brilliant (as she shares the same name and nationality as this writer – hurrah) Gemma Arterton as Gretel, the film mythologises by way of The Matrix, a dose of payback for the old hag who years before tried to turn the siblings into a snack. Now we’re set to see it on a very big screen. Oh, and it’s in 3D.
The follow-up to this year’s haunted house chiller The Woman In Black has landed a director in the shape of Tom Harper. Harper is known in the UK for his work directing TV shows like The Scouting Book For Boys and Misfits, for which he was BAFTA-nominated.
