A fan campaign to get Alita: Battle Angel back into theaters has apparently achieved its goal, according to a response today from Cinemark Theatres. Last week, we shared an update on the Alita fandom's push to get its members to target Cinemark in a bid to re-release the cult movie. It now appears that the chain have taken this on board, and we could end up with the 2019 production on the big screen, at least in a limited way.
While we still have a reasonably long wait for the seventh season of The Flash to arrive, information is starting to filter through about The CW show. Now the ostensible flagship of the Arrowverse since Arrow ended, The Flash will reportedly be delving into some surprising areas in its next year and the latest reveal is that John Wesley Shipp will be returning to the production to play Jay Garrick, although details of what this'll involve are so far unclear.
Netflix and its streaming rivals are putting out a lot of Halloween content this year, meaning that horror fans will have much to choose from over the next month or so. One of the first big seasonal releases for the company, though, is Vampires vs the Bronx, which hits the service this Friday, October 2nd. And based on the trailer and other images that we've seen so far, it looks like it could be a lot of fun to watch.
Netflix has enjoyed a pretty successful year, from its leadership on the streaming charts to the sheer amount of money that the service continues to rake in. However, an analyst is now predicting that the platform could be preparing to raise its prices in North America and Europe, but is unlikely to experience much pushback from its users over the move.
Fans of the new seasons of Doctor Who will be familiar with the Doctor's use of "timey-wimey," first thrown out by David Tennant in the episode "Blink" to explain the not-always-consistent rules of time travel. Matt Smith's Doctor also employed it in "The Day of the Doctor," while the phrase has become a kind of sci-fi shorthand for situations where clear information isn't present. However, it seems that the expression has its origins back in classic Who. Well, sort of, anyway.
As we head into October, the amount of new content on streaming and VOD platforms doesn't seem to be slowing down, COVID-19 or not. For this weekend, a number of new movies were added to the major providers, including Misbehaviour, Ava, Alone, and No Escape. What, then, can we expect from these new titles and where can you watch them?
We're looking forward to the second season of The CW's Batwoman, which will have a new lead character in Javicia Leslie's Ryan Wilder. Over the last few days, we've seen various glimpses of Leslie in the role, including in the Bat costume. Indeed, with shooting now underway after a COVID-19-enforced absence, on-set photos are coming in at a rapid rate, and the latest one gives us a much better idea of how the actress will look when we see her on our screens.
Before his death in 2017, George A. Romero was still busy with a wide range of potential projects, including those tied to his Night of the Living Dead franchise. One of these ideas was Road of the Dead, an intriguing mix of Fast & Furious-style action and zombies, which would have been directed by collaborator Matt Birman. While the film appeared to be on permanent hold, Birman has recently explained that Romero's script could still be made.
Blumhouse's remake of cult 1990s film The Craft now has a release date, and it's coming sooner than we'd have thought. Likely owing to the COVID-19 crisis, The Craft will hit streaming first on October 27th via Prime Video, which will make it one of the highlights of an already crowded season for horror fans this year.
Shudder's Creepshow arguably does a lot with limited resources, and is currently in the planning stages of a second season. However, before that, fans of the anthology series are getting a Halloween treat this October via a new animated special based on stories by Stephen King and Joe Hill, and there'll be some familiar voices behind the production.
