It's fair to say that the Stephen King boom isn't going away anytime soon, with Doctor Sleep, a new season of Castle Rock, and HBO's The Outsider series just some of the adaptations coming our way in the next few months. King himself continues to be a prolific author, too, with The Institute currently on shelves and new novella collection If It Bleeds due out in 2020. Now, though, the legacy of King's work will be celebrated via plans to convert his Maine home into a small museum and a retreat for writers.
The Critters franchise is getting a significant update this year through Shudder's Critters: A New Binge and now Syfy's Critters Attack! The fifth feature-length film in the series, which originally ran from 1986 to 1992, is making its network premiere on Syfy this weekend after a Blu-ray and streaming launch over the summer. While not a classic by any standards, the film should still provide nostalgia for fans of the property.
With the launch of Disney Plus now less than a month away, the studio has been steadily teasing its impressive release lineup on social media. Earlier today, we shared with you the epic three-hour (!) trailer that Disney have put out to let us know what to expect on November 12th. As well as highly anticipated new series like The Mandalorian, we'll also be getting a vast number of titles from the Disney vaults, as well as those acquired via its takeover of Fox. However, Marvel fans may be disappointed at the number of MCU movies available on launch day.
It's fair to say we're excited for this winter's "Crisis on Infinite Earths," from the ongoing casting news to the glimpses we've had so far of various characters together, as well as new costumes. We're now hearing from Heroic Hollywood though that Arrow star Stephen Amell will be taking on the mantle of the Spectre during "Crisis." This role will be in addition to playing Oliver Queen and the Green Arrow, as well as potentially taking on different versions of the character from across the DC Multiverse.
The Alien franchise is currently going through another rethink since the Disney purchase of Fox, as we've heard about several television series being developed, with Ridley Scott involved in at least one of them. Indeed, there's been talk of an Alien show on a streaming service for some time, as well as an animated version of Alien: Isolation, and today w've received word that the former will be an anthology series on Hulu, with each season taking place in a different part of the Alien universe.
Just when we thought the cast list for "Crisis on Infinite Earths" couldn't get any better, it's been reported that Justin Hartley and Robert Wuhl are joining the Arrowverse event. Hartley will be reprising his role as Oliver Queen and the Green Arrow from Smallville, while, even more intriguingly, Wuhl will be returning as Alexander Knox from Tim Burton's Batman. While we're still waiting for official confirmation on this from The CW, our sources did previously let us know that Hartley was in talks to appear and now, it seems that our scoop has been confirmed.
The introduction of Jodie Whittaker as the latest Doctor received backlash from certain people believing that the BBC had diverted from their idea of Doctor Who. This unfortunate angle continued as the series tackled racism and other issues in its latest season, including the episode "Demons of the Punjab."
Speaking out as part of World Mental Health Day, Batwoman star Ruby Rose has discussed her own problems with depression. The Australian actor has been vocal about some of the reactions to her character Kate Kane in the Arrowverse, with the series promoting a powerful feminist message. In a post on Instagram, Rose was frank about the struggles she's faced since her childhood, and how they've shaped her career to date.
We've been spoilt for "Crisis on Infinite Earths" news in the last week, as more photos emerge of the epic crossover event. As well as behind-the-scenes shots of various pairings, we're also getting some intriguing hints at how different characters will be dealt with in the storyline. The latest glimpse of the Arrowverse series-spanning "Crisis" we've received is of Brandon Routh's "Kingdom Come" Superman, this time courtesy of Legends of Tomorrow co-star Tala Ashe.
Classic Doctor Who suffered from the BBC's shortsightedness when it came to archiving material, with many of the episodes from the William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton era destroyed. While a number of them have since been recovered, or restored as animated or audio versions, live action recreations have typically been impractical. One standalone episode, 1965's Mission to the Unknown, has now been remade as a fan project though, something we delved into last week. The BBC were supportive enough to run it on their YouTube channel as well, 54 years to the date since its original broadcast, and you can check it out down below.
