Excitement is building for the January premiere of Star Trek: Picard, and we've already heard a lot about what to expect from the CBS All Access series. Over the weekend, the Destination Star Trek convention provided some reveals via Patrick Stewart, including new insights into the Borg and the return of some familiar characters. Another significant piece of news from the convention though was the first look at Picard's admiral uniform, both through the prop and on the cover of IDW Publishing's prequel comic series.
The "Crisis on Infinite Earths" event is rapidly approaching and has already been explored through the opening episodes of the new Arrowverse seasons. We're also getting a reliable stream of behind-the-scenes photos and official images of the key players, as well as theories about the eventual fate of the series' heroes.
We don't have long to wait for the premiere of Star Trek: Picard, which will arrive in January 2020. In the meantime, Patrick Stewart has been dropping hints about what to expect from the new Star Trek series. Stewart appeared at the Destination Star Trek convention this weekend, where he's already revealed we could be seeing the return of the Star Trek: The Next Generation crew. As part of the same talk, Stewart has also suggested that we'll get to know more about the Borg in the premiere of the new series.
Variously discussed over the last few years, a Justice League Dark movie could be back on the cards. According to our sources, the team-up movie featuring many of DC's supernatural characters, including John Constantine and Swamp Thing, could now be a reality. Intriguingly, Stranger Things creators the Duffer Brothers may direct the film, or possibly Mike Flanagan. At the very least, we're hearing that Warner Bros. want a horror director to take control of the project.
The success of Joker has led to talk of sequels and Joaquin Phoenix's character turning up in the future Robert Pattinson Batman films. With Jared Leto's time as the Joker reportedly over, there's a Clown Prince of Crime-shaped gap for James Gunn's upcoming The Suicide Squad and although we don't know yet whether the Joker will have a part to play in the pic, actor Joel Kinnaman thinks adding Phoenix would be a great idea.
The Leprechaun movie series, which has racked up no less than eight instalments, apparently still has its fans within the filmmaking community. Lionsgate and Syfy worked together on the most recent outing, 2018's Leprechaun Returns, which tried to go back to the roots of the original 1980s movie after a poorly received reboot in 2014. Although there doesn't seem to be massive demand for more Leprechaun content, director Darren Lynn Bousman is reportedly keen to take on the franchise.
While it didn't perhaps achieve the critical or commercial success it was predicted, It: Chapter Two remains one of the biggest releases of the year. The Stephen King adaptation, which may still get a third movie, now has a home video release date, and it's surprisingly soon. It: Chapter Two will be available on digital platforms from November 19th, and will then be released via 4K, DVD and Blu-Ray Combo Packs on December 10th.
We haven't been short of Spider-Man news recently, from Disney and Sony (temporarily) calling a truce on sharing the web-slinger, through to exciting news about the future of the Sony Marvel universe. Furthermore, we're hearing talk of Spider-Man cameoing in everything from the new Fantastic Four and X-Men reboots, to Tom Holland's version of the character pairing up with Wolverine and Deadpool. The latest rumors though say that Sony and Disney are considering a Spider-Man Secret Wars multiverse, bringing together Holland, Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire and Tom Hardy's Venom.
Amazon's The Boys is one of the biggest streaming successes of the year, delivering a faithful adaptation of the Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson-penned source material that doesn't shy away from explicit content. We already know that The Boys is reportedly more popular than every Marvel show on Netflix, but now it's been revealed that the series received more than 4 million viewers in its initial 10 days of release on Amazon Prime Video. With a second season already on the way, The Boys is arguably a gamble that paid off for the company in bringing adult-themed superheroes to the screen.
The coming months are going to be fascinating ones for Netflix, as the perennial streaming giant has to compete with Disney Plus and Apple TV+. As usual, Netflix are releasing new original content, as well as updating their movie list, while introducing some Christmas titles into the mix ahead of December. Some highlights include the third season of The Crown, and the streaming premiere of Martin Scorsese's The Irishman.
