As we come to the end of the 2010s, it's fair to say we've lived through one of the richest periods in television history. Although it hasn't won some of the awards and critical plaudits as other shows of the decade, AMC's The Walking Dead has been a consistent success during this era, to the extent that we'll be getting new episodes from the franchise almost every Sunday in 2020.
While Batwoman's debut season has had some rocky moments with its ratings so far, in my opinion it has performed a good job of balancing Batman mythology with allowing Ruby Rose's Kate Kane to stand out on her own merits. In addition, Batwoman's use of an out gay lead playing a gay character has strengthened the Arrowverse's long history of LGBT representation, something that's been picked up on by GLAAD in surveying the 2019 television landscape.
Disney Plus is now less than a week away, and will launch with an impressive catalog of content, as well as new original series like The Mandalorian. However, the platform's claims to being the most comprehensive source of Disney-owned material will include some understandable exceptions. According to reports, Disney are committed to never showing films and particular scenes that, to put it mildly, haven't aged very well or were divisive to begin with.
Batman Beyond remains one of the most-loved, and so-far un-filmed properties in the DC universe. The future version of the Batman story, where an aged Bruce Wayne trains new Batman Terry McGinnis, is reportedly being eyed by Warner Bros. as a feature film, having previously been represented by an animated series and movie, and various comic book series. A UK artist has now further stoked our enthusiasm for a Batman Beyond film though by imagining it as a sequel to Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy.
Adding to a list of potential sequels we'd all like to see, Arnold Schwarzenegger mentioned the possibility of doing a True Lies 2 this week. Speaking as part of a press tour for Terminator: Dark Fate, Schwarzenegger said he was open to going back to his 1994 role as Harry Tasker, a government agent keeping secrets from his family.
Anticipation is building for Halloween Kills, the first of two sequels to David Gordon Green's 2018 version of Halloween. Some behind-the-scenes footage arrived last week that, while brief, showed Michael Myers surviving the end of the previous film, as well as glimpses of other characters. Not only that, but the recent teaser also featured an Easter egg referencing the original Halloween II. Specifically, we're talking about Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode being wheeled to a hospital.
It's been a busy week for fans of the Halloween franchise, with a teaser, available above, dropped by Jamie Lee Curtis for the upcoming Halloween Kills. As well as potentially revealing how Michael Myers escaped the fire at the Strode house, the trailer also gave us our first look at Anthony Michael Hall's portrayal of Tommy Doyle. We should hopefully expect more footage soon, too, as shooting has now officially wrapped after 36 days, setting up a post-production period leading up to Halloween Kills' release next October.
The Vin Diesel-starring Riddick 4: Furya is gathering momentum, with shooting on the latest entry in the franchise set to begin in 2020. The film will take Riddick back to his home planet of Furya, with David Twohy returning to direct after helming all three movies in the series to date. And following on from the news that Karl Urban may be showing up in the sequel, our sources - the same ones who told us that an Aladdin sequel and a Green Lantern TV series are in the works, which we now know to be true - have informed us that Katee Sackhoff is also expected to join the cast for Riddick's comeback.
The Stephen King-inspired anthology series Creepshow has been granted a second season by horror streamer Shudder. While great to hear, this isn't too surprising, as the show's been a solid performer for the network, wrapping its first season on Halloween. Overseen by The Walking Dead's Greg Nicotero, Creepshow's commitment to old-school special effects have made it a treat for Shudder subscribers, with Deadline reporting that roughly half of the platform's audience have seen at least one episode.
The future of the Netflix Marvel characters has been a subject of some debate in recent weeks, with most looking to be carried over to Disney-managed properties, albeit with some recasting. In the case of Charlie Cox's Daredevil, it seems like we'll be seeing the character reappear in several Marvel movies, with a more toned down fourth season also on the cards. The latest news from our sources is that Marvel are still deciding when and where will be best to bring the character into the MCU, but are considering the option of making him part of the She-Hulk show on Disney Plus.
