We've heard a lot of takes on the future of the SnyderVerse in recent weeks, from it not happening to hints that things could work out if Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. can mend their relationship. Although the success of Justice League gave the DCEU franchise a boost, it does seem that WB are going in new directions, most notably with J.J. Abrams. However, this month's merger between AT&T's WarnerMedia and Discovery could turn out to be a positive one for Snyder fans.
It's fair to say that Jared Leto's take on the Joker has been divisive, especially compared to the performances of Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger. Although the character was slightly redeemed in Zack Snyder's Justice League, he remains a bit cringe-worthy for some DC fans and to this end, Teen Titans Go! have chosen to roast Leto's version of the villain in episode "Pig in a Poke," wherein they impersonate him as part of a plan to break into his lair.
Despite occasional denials, a sequel to Joker has always been on the cards due to its enormous critical and commercial success. We recently heard that Joker 2 was likely under active development as part of Warner Bros.' and DC's long-term slate of expected releases, albeit without necessarily crossing over into the mainstream franchise. Now, The Direct are claiming, via THR, that director Todd Phillips is being brought in to co-write the screenplay for the project.
We've recently heard that AT&T are possibly keen on an Arkham Knight show for HBO Max, which would involve Ben Affleck's version of the character in an R-rated adventure. The series, reportedly set to be based on Grant Morrison's Arkham Asylum graphic novel and Rocksteady Games' Arkham Knight game, is one of several Batman projects that could happen on streaming, but Geekosity have noted that Zack Snyder will not be part of the production.
Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead has certainly made an impact since arriving on Friday, from dominating the Netflix charts to sparking the prospect of a lot more entries in the same universe. One of the most intriguing discussions around the Las Vegas zombie heist has involved whether additional characters survived than are shown on-screen, and what the ending may or may not mean. To this end, Snyder has recently teased that one character's death can't be ruled out, in what will be a spoiler to anyone yet to see the movie.
We've been gradually hearing bits and pieces about Damien Leone's Terrifier 2, the sequel to his micro-budget 2016 hit. Back in March, Leone was hard at work assembling a rough cut, and has now announced that he has a completed edit that comes in at over two hours. Although we're still waiting for an official release date, it seems very likely that we'll be seeing the finished version of Terrifier 2 before the end of the year.
While there is already much to to anticipate on Netflix next month, the streaming platform is also adding a lot of new horror content for subscribers. The service is reportedly investing heavily in the genre going forward, after having success with the likes of His House and several other titles, and highlights for June include The Devil Below, The Seventh Day and the second season of zombie series Black Summer.
We don't have too long to wait for The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, with the sequel set to arrive on HBO Max and in limited theaters on June 4th. Director Michael Chaves has previously spoken about the film, which explores an actual legal case alleging demonic culpability, as the darkest that The Conjuring franchise has tackled. However, star Vera Farmiga has said that it's more of a love story than a horror tale.
It seems that Warner Bros. and AT&T are still keen to work with Ben Affleck's Batman in some capacity, with the most recent talk being that there will be a limited series based on Arkham Knight for HBO Max. According to Geekosity, this story would take place within the SnyderVerse, and the latest update is that it will be an R-rated spin on the Dark Knight, in keeping with the more horrific aspects of Arkham Asylum.
It hasn't been a very good few weeks for the Doctor Who franchise, with ex-companion Noel Clarke's history of harassment coming to light, followed by John Barrowman's habit of exposing himself being re-examined. Although the actor has apologized, and was reprimanded for similar behavior back in 2008, a decision's now been made to cancel the release of a Torchwood audio drama that would have reunited him with David Tennant's Doctor.
