Since being released in the US last Friday, the rebooted Mortal Kombat has had a pretty positive response from audiences, if not critics, and appears to be bearing out Warner Bros.' strategy of dual theatrical and HBO Max debuts. Moreover, the production had a solid weekend at the box office, taking in around $22.5 million, and is now the highest-grossing R-rated movie to arrive in cinemas during the pandemic.
DC have put out a number of horror-themed titles during its history, from the classic Vertigo comics to more recent Black Label and Hill House Comics imprints, with the latter led by Joe Hill. However, the publisher will now have a DC Horror brand, under which they're releasing a series based on the world of The Conjuring. What, then, can we expect from the upcoming book?
You certainly can't accuse Sylvester Stallone of slowing down as he gets older, with the multi-hyphenate star taking on a number of new projects, including a turn as the voice of King Shark in The Suicide Squad. However, the Rocky franchise is arguably the most personal for the actor, who's been working on a Director's Cut of Rocky IV. And now, Stallone has revealed that fans will get a bonus documentary as part of the alternative version of the 1985 hit.
Legends of Tomorrow star Dominic Purcell announced yesterday that he'd be departing the CW show, and had some combative words about his exit. These comments included surprisingly candid criticism of the studio behind the series, in this case Warner Bros., and their perceived lack of loyalty. However, Purcell has now deleted his original Instagram post, instead making a more conciliatory statement.
We don't have too long to wait for Mortal Kombat, which will be with us on April 23rd. Although we've already had a lot of details about the movie, including some positive early praise, today saw the release of a new clip showing Scorpion going up against Sub-Zero. Providing us with a taste of what to expect from the hard-R picture, the short video, available above, gives us a lot to be excited about.
Disney Plus' reboot of Home Alone has been on the cards for a while now, and will be more of a reimagining of the scenario than a straight update of the familiar story. A stoner version with Ryan Reynolds is also apparently planned, much to the director of the original 1990 film's displeasure, but the D+ remake looks to be closer to release. We learned about the cast last year, and star Kenan Thompson has now shared information on the picture's progress and says that the project should be wrapping up soon.
The future of Henry Cavill as Superman has been strongly debated in the last few months, especially now that Warner Bros. are developing a new version of the DC character. The prospect of a Man of Steel 2 is similarly looking pretty tenuous, even after the positive reaction to Zack Snyder's Justice League. However, Geekosity is now reporting that the English performer could be returning to the DCEU, and most likely in the upcoming Black Adam.
